When I left for college the first thing I did war cut off half of my hair.

I know it seems petty but whenever I’m back in my old town visiting my parents somebody always asks me why I don’t grow it out again. I can tell them any reason for it, it took an hour to blow dry, I think short hair on girls is cute, it looks good this length when I straighten it, but they still seem disappointed. I don’t know why me looking different brothers them but it’s really getting annoying. Can’t they just say it looks nice to be polite?

I don’t have anything to add, as the previous ppl basically summed it up. I just wanted to say I think I recognize you from real life, how weird. I used to go to Hartford.

People will always react like that whenever a person makes a major change to their appearance. I don’t really know why. I’ve grown my hair out long only to cut it short again many times, and I still get the same reaction from people who have seen it short before. Some people simply prefer long hair and for some reason think they need to impose that on others. Perhaps they just don’t realize what a pain long hair can be (one thing that always annoyed me was having to actual move my hair in order to roll over in bed or it would get trapped under my shoulders and pulled.)

There’s a story in my family that my great-grandmother had very thick, beautiful hair that she grew very long. Everyone loved her hair. It would give her horrible headaches because of how heavy it was. Sometimes, it would hurt so bad that she would just sit in her room and cry for a while. Finally, my great-grandfather who obviously loved how beautiful my great-grandmother and her hair were, came up behind her while she was crying and started cutting her hair off. She was very grateful and never grew it out so long again.

Tell them, if they ask, “Why don’t you grow it out again?” “Because I like it like this and I don’t want to.”

If they ask why you cut it, say, “Because I didn’t like my hair long, and I like this way much better.” If they keep it up, give them a really cool look and say, “The last time I checked, it was my hair, not yours, and I was the one who had to live with it. Has that changed since then?” if you don’t mind being very sarcastic.

I have long red hair, but when I was about 19 I had a man way older than me yelling at me telling me, I was nothing. I cut out pieces of it and threw them at him saying “is this what you loved? ” Then I arranged the pieces into a “**** you” pattern. I grew it back out, but that is me. Some girls, like you, look so awesome with that. I am tallish so I guess that doesn’t look good on me. You rock with that. :) I keep mine about just before the small of my back, but you look so cute happy and free. Tell them to “shut up”/ I took hell for a lot of things I did with my hair. I even stripped it out all white once just to annoy them :)
