Homeless?

Watching a program called “Feed the Children” on ABC family got me thinking of writing a story about a homeless person living with a family and trying to survive in life, this person would be a child, about teenage, 13-15 I’d say…what I’m asking is, what do you think life homeless and hungry would be like? Are they always immigrants? Just what you think it would be like and what the people would be like. Also, if you wish, please if you have any first or second hand stories and/or experiences dealing with homeless, hungry and sick people of this subject.

I am not asking this to upset anyone, but to hopefully write a novel about this subject and maybe open some eyes of people who need their eyes to be opened, I want to show the world how some people have little and that from what they have should be appreciated even if it just a small loaf or piece of bread.

I really like your idea! Homeless people I’m sure have depresstion problems. You could add something like that in.

If you’re serious, the best thing to do with be to talk directly with homeless people. Tape record, film, etc. Then, publish your book/movie/audio for sale. Then donate the proceeds to charities that help homeless people.

I’m curious how old our poster is. Are you in high school? I could pretty much guarantee you that there are 2-5 homeless teens at your school right now. Teens that move from place to place… maybe some that stay in cheap hotels… some that sleep in the car with mom or dad. Find them… talk to them.

Just make sure when you talk about homeless people, you just don’t say “homeless” or “the homeless”. That takes the person element out. It dehumanizes them. We don’t call handicapped people cripples, so we shouldn’t call homeless people “the homeless”.

I’ve been homeless myself once upon a time. It’s not always the stereotypical stuff you see. Yeah, there is some like that, but from my own experiances, it’s just ordainary people who have problems. Whether it be financial, or situational.

Try and watch The Pursuit Of Happyness, it might give you some idea of how one man’s struggle with a bout of homelessness was.

I was recently laid off from my home health/hospice job and because I am a single mother I have had to live paycheck to paycheck. I found myself losing my home and asked for help and there was no help available. I then lost my home and found myself in a shelter with my little girl. The first place, my daughter caught a man snorting cocaine in the parking lot. Then we came to another shelter where you get 2 weeks maximum to find a job and a place. In this economy that is unrealistic. So currently my daughter and I are in the car.
Before I was in this situation I had the misconception that homeless people were lazy and alcoholics and drug addicts and just didn’t want the help. I can tell you my eyes were opened. There are families, single parents, husbands and wives in these places.
There are several battered women shelters but they do not help if the situation is not an emergency. I was told I would have to go back to the same man I escaped 2 years ago and when he hit me I could then get a place. There is no compassion even at the so called christian organizations.
I have always donated to churches and cherities because I was always afraid that if I were in need of help it would be available to me. I was dead wrong. No one cares. Everyone has their misconceptions of homelessness.
Currently I am trying to get into Tennessee Tech University to go to nursing school. I am currently a CNA and I work mainly with hospice and home health. I was accepted into college and I have the financial aid to cover it, I do not have the school fee of even $15. I have no money. I have no home.
So here is a point of view of someone who is educated (you may not think it since I’m sure this is littered with misspelled words)… Do not judge anyone or keep a closed mind because one day you will find yourself there. It is the most humiliating, hopeless, terrifying experience I have ever been in. The fear you feel for your child is beyond anything anyone can imagine. I never thought it would be me and here I am.
