Sitting help: If an airplane is on a large conveyor belt and is trying to take - Help.com

If an airplane is on a large conveyor belt and is trying

to take off by exerting the thrust needed to move it forward at 100 knots, and the conveyor belt starts moving backwards at 100 knots, will the plane be able to take off, or will it just sit stationary relative to the ground, with the backwards speed of the conveyor belt counteracting the forward thrust of the plane?

I think it would move fowards because the thrust is pushing it rather than the traction from the wheels.

assuming the undercarriage doesn’t fail due to the 200 knots speed. It will simply lift off.

assuming the power is not supplied by the wheels ( not sure why it would be …) it would take off, as it is pushing off from the air, not the ground.

A car on the otherhand would theoretically stay still
