friends help: So my son has an imaginary friend named Grieku, or Greegu, depending if you spell it pheonetically. - Help.com

So my son has an imaginary friend named Grieku, or Greegu, depending if you spell it pheonetically.

We’ve asked him questions about “Grieku” And he told us it’s a girl, and apparently very small, like she can fit in a shoe box. We can ask him “Where’s Grieku?” and he tells us “Grieku on the bed” or “Grieku under chair” and “Grieku kicks the sand”. We’ve had a hard time getting a description, because my son is only 2. It seems odd that my 2 y/o would have such a detailed imaginary friend. I just wanted to put this out for open discussion. I already know people are going to say he’s crazy, but I knows he’s not. And he’s never seen a cartoon, or movie with a character with a similar sounding name. We’ve already ruled out that it’s a word he saying wrong, that it is something he can “see”

I just wanted a few thoughts, or if someone went through the same thing, thanks.

No, he’s not crazy.

He’s playing a game.

He’s already telling us “No” When we ask him where it is. But just now he told me where it was without me asking. Maybe he is playing a game, but he’s been talking about it for days, and we never understood who he was talking about until today.

When my daughter was two years old, she had an imaginary friend who lived under our house. She talked to her friend through the grate over our furnace quite often, over a period of a few weeks. She grew up to be a perfectly normal woman. Children have wonderful imaginations, don’t they?
If you need further reassurance, why don’t you phone your son’s doctor?

Read Calvin and Hobbes, it’s normal for kids to have imaginary friends.

Oh I don’t doubt that he’ll be normal, he’s a very happy kid. And I’m fine with him having an imaginary. He’s an only child, so I would even more so understand if he had one. But he has real friends as well. I just wanted to see what others thought of the situation (:

I c but stop trying to force it out of him just let him come to u all when he’s ready to talk about I mean he is only 2 and as long as u c that he is not hurting his self or say the friend is let him be that’s my opinion

We’ve definitely embraced his new friend, I just had no idea that this kind of stuff started at 2! But I’m very happy that he has such an active imagination, and that other parents went through this phase as well. Thanks again everyone (:

My mom said I had imaginary friend from when I was about three. She was named Meerie and lived in the mirror.

It kinda turned into talking to myself, but, eh, who cares?

I have been enjoying the imaginary friends reports. Mind if I invite some friends to the post? Wouldn’t it be fun to learn how many of the helpers have had imaginary friends in their lives?

You could even make your own post for that.
