Love help: I have been thinking about a career path but I have no idea what I want to be. - Help.com

I have been thinking about a career path but I have no idea what I want to be.

I’m pretty sure 80% (or something like that) of the population have no idea either. I think I know what I want to be but my interets are so broad that it’s impossible to pick just one! I would love a job where I got to travel a lot.

I love Sports, nothing gets the blood pumping like sky diving or absailing.
I love History and Geography, I love learning about ancient civilisations and their many hidden secrets.
I love Japanese - I was thinking maybe of going to Japan and teaching Japanese students English?
I love Astronomy - I love learning about the planets and stars … their just so beautiful.
I love Cooking - my mother got me into it and I just love baking.

If you could help me that would be awesome!

Thanks
- Hana

Wow, you are an interesting one, aren’t you!

How about teaching the history of sport in Japan?

That ties a few of your interests together!

Hana,

I’m still struggling to figure out what I want to do also. It’s very tough to decided what your heart wants expecially when you love so many things. I think that you shouldn’t rush into a career if you aren’t 100% ready. You are going to have this job for the rest of your life. Who says you can’t take the time to get ideas from personal experiences before you make this decision? Look more into the careers that you are interested in and see if there are somethings that you didn’t realize came with the job of teachings or cooking. I don’t know if that helped too much, but just letting you know I feel what you are saying and it is tough. Hope it works out for you!

That’s not necessarily true. Who says you will have this job for the rest of your life? You can do whatever you want! And change jobs lots of times if you feel like it!

You are correct, most people dont know what they want to do or be. The only danger for you is doing nothing.

Right or wrong, do something. Dont be afraid of the outcome. If its right, you’ll feel it. If its wrong, you will have learned many great lessons coming to that realization.

(Cooking can rarely be a rewarding career choice. Its best left as a hobby! My experience at least…… :-)

OOps, just saw something else.

All of these things that you love can make good solid career choices. But they can also make wonderful hobbies to fill your free time. Study the things you don’t get paid for. They are passions of yours. You don’t have to just let them go……

I would change jobs if it was that easy, I need at least a masters for teaching and a PhD for Astronomy. I’m a pretty far-reaching person .. I was thinking maybe NASA or something.

Or am I completely wrong on the qualification part? (I so bet I am lol)

Here’s another thought.
Seriously try to think of some way of marrying as many of your interests as possible and make a business out of it!
I realise that sounds ambitious in the current global economic climate.
But still you if you could, its very possible you would have the market corner in your field!
