Where were you?
You can also watch events on Help.com as they happen
I am a fan of acrylic paints myself, but mainly because I find them easier and less turpentiney-washy-outy-of-brushes to work with!
I am currently painting a massive mural on my bedroom wall :D
Thanks jjlove, I might just do that.
No, my avatar is not my work. Here are some links to some paintings I’ve done, if ur interested in having a look:

Gabz those are amazing.
Wow, I am truly impressed. You have a real talent!
Thanks you guys. Im with you Dougie, on acrylics. Oils are so stinky, but for some reason I feel I want to paint with oils. The thing is, Im actually scared of using them, coz I never have before, and I believe it stays wet for a long time, so ur basically painting wet in wet ?
jjlove, dougie, anyone else, feel free to post links to your work, Id love to see. I love looking at other peoples art.
Oil paintings dont dry for years…. many years apparently.
I don’t have a place to upload any of my pics.
But I will change my avatar and you can have a look at my wall so far! :)
ok dougie, kool. Yeah it takes that long to dry ?
I use extender medium in my acrylics to stop them drying out to fast, and I heard you can also get stuff to add to acrylics to give that oil appearance ? Have you heard about that ?
No I haven’t but as you can see my avatar is now my wall painting.
Not finished, and you cant see it all that clearly on my profile!
But still should giev you an indication!
Hehe, Aussie’s are very talented ;)
Oh wow, thats so nice. How big is it ? It looks big.
Hi Gabz, I don’t paint (I struggle to draw a stick man) but I like acrylic paintings, they always look more textured, but if the painting was good it really wouldn’t matter what it was done in. Have looked at your paintings and I absolutely love the first one, it’s the kind of thing I would buy.

A radius of about 50cm give or take :)
Gabz do it like i do it .Make your own Web site like barbyman.com get all your paintings on your site including the once sold and start advertising everywhere. I’M doing well with my site selling Records. In the next year by march i hope to finish my 2nd album on top of that try doing a few Videos and that at 67 years of age .I missed out big .But no use complaining just could not do it before financially.Truly you may sell a few less Pictures or me a few less records but everything what i sell is mine.Same goes for you.The Gallery wants there cut.The record company wants its cut..
What kind of music is it Barbyman?
Could I get it from i-tunes, is it in their store?

That link Gabz, should give you a full-sized version of all the avatars I’ve ever used.
It will show you my wall painting in very good detail :D
Enjoy!
Doug i can see you in big big movies….
Once I’ve written some yes!
I really should get an acting agent! Hehehe! :)
But thankyou Barbyman.
The compliment is greatly appreciated :D
I prefer oil and if I was buying I would definitely opt for an oil painting. Also as an Artist I prefer to use oil the colours are purer but they are more expensive to buy and take dedication.
As for exhibition usually its just a matter of asking. Phone up galleries and museums and ask when they have a free space, usually they take a percentage 25 to 30% or have you tried your local hospital they take a lower pencent usually about 10% and it a great selling venue, surprisingly. Contact people you admire and ask there advice. But most of all never give up.
Jen. I tried oils a couple of nights ago, and erm well. It wasn’t a pleasant experience. You must be a patient person. Also, I’m sure I’m allergic to the turps coz my throat kept swelling up from the smell. I should have kept the turps outside.
Also, I find them incredibly difficult to use in general. Is there a secret to using them ? What type of things do you paint ?
If your allergic i’d recommend you dont use them then lol! Use what you enjoy using, it usually shows in the finished product. I love sketching and painting people mostly and also the moon, I dont know why!
No secrets, start like a child though I started oils using my fingers (messy and again if you think you may be allergic, not recommended) it could help you understand the ways in which you could use the media for special effects, be at one with the paint lol!

I’m an artist, and I’ve done many paintings, but I’ve never displayed any of my work apart from an art club I’m with and local art events of which I’ve won many top artist awards.
My question is, how do you get your art work recognised or accepted for display in a gallery ?
Also, if you were shopping for a painting, would you have a preference for oils, acrylics or water color paintings and why ? Or would it not make any difference ?
