Got an opinion on depression?

What questions would you ask someone who was depressed but didn’t know why?
Here’s the questions I just came up with.
———–

How you sleeping? What do you eat?
Are you living somewhere you feel completely safe, comfortable and wanted?
You have any exercise, even walking, in your day?
Do you have a way of expressing your emotions?
Do you have someone who you know cares about you, and can tell anything?
Do you have something you are working towards, something that YOU really want?

If you had all that sorted, do you think you’d feel happier?

——-
( credit to moppy )
How’s your love life?
Do you feel your lonely despite the fact that you have a lot of friends ?
Did you seek professional help ?
did you talk to somebody ?
Do you know the cause ?
How was your child life ?
MOST IMPORTANTLY : Are you suicidal ?

——-
Does it comes and goes thru the seasons?

Worth asking whether it comes and goes thru the seasons. It may be partly SAD and you can get lamps to help with that.

I’m not depressed, but…

How you sleeping?
Not well. I have insomnia, and now I can’t sleep in my room for reasons I don’t feel like going into.

What do you eat?
Whatever I can afford. Instant oatmeal and ramen noodles.

Are you living somewhere you feel completely safe, comfortable and wanted?
Safe? No. Comfortable? No. Wanted? No.

You have any exercise, even walking, in your day?
Yes. I walk so I can smoke.

Do you have a way of expressing your emotions?
I come here…

Do you have someone who you know cares about you, and can tell anything?
No.

Do you have something you are working towards, something that YOU really want?
Yes, but none of my effort goes into that, as right now, I have to concentrate all of my effort on survival.

If you had all that sorted, do you think you’d feel happier?
I’d certainly be less irritable.

———————————-

How’s your love life?
Mostly non-existent. I boink a new person now and then, proceed to get bored with them, and lose contact.

Do you feel your lonely despite the fact that you have a lot of friends ?
I don’t really have any friends in this state. I might feel lonely, but I never notice, and I hate being around people for long.

Did you seek professional help ?
N/A.

did you talk to somebody ?
Not really.

Do you know the cause ?
See above/past posts, lol.

How was your child life ?
Oh, f**k. Put me on the couch, why don’t you?

MOST IMPORTANTLY : Are you suicidal ?
Never.

Xeno, wrong on number 6!

Also, hope you can start getting a good night’s sleep. I guess my time in the military helped. Sleep deprivation was common, so when you finally got a chance to sleep, you could sleep right next to a roaring generator, or in a depression in the ground, or in a metal folding chair. I still have periods of sleepless from time to time, though. Sometimes the neurons just won’t stop firing. Then I get up and just look at things on the computer until I’m too tired to do it any more.

My father suffered from depression. The doctors’ solution was to give him medication . . . forever. With all due respect to the medical community, I believe that drugs should be only a short-term solution. The only real “cure” for depression is to get off your butt and start living your life. If you sit and mope, you’ll only become more depressed.

The shrinks give people Prozac like it was candy, and don’t bother to tell them that it wrecks the libido. The depressed person’s significant other feels deprived of love and affection, and the patient lives in a separate, medicated world. I think such drugs can be helpful for a short period of time, but psychiatrists need to work on getting depressed people back into the real world, instead of creating an artificial one for them.

Didn’t intend people to answer these, as I was just trying to help someone who was down, but here goes…

I’m not depressed anymore, but…

How you sleeping?
Well, but not at all related to the sun or other people. I’m not working till after christmas, so I’m enjoying it while I can.

What do you eat?
Fairly well, as I have time to cook, and I live with some good cooks and its something I want to learn more about

Are you living somewhere you feel completely safe, comfortable and wanted?
Safe? Yes. Comfortable? Yes. Wanted? A bit - plesant housemates who enjoy my company and visa versa.

You have any exercise, even walking, in your day?
Huge, to much. Its my addiction and I have even lost weight to the point of unhealthy, Its something I have to fix.

Do you have a way of expressing your emotions?
Here, dancing, and standing on mountain tops roaring.

Do you have someone who you know cares about you, and can tell anything?
Almost. My sister is awesome and we are close, but she has a new born and I don’t want to lean on here when I’m down. I have a best mate for many years, but every now and then, he gets depressed or arrogant and I can’t be around him for long. There is also a few female friends os who love me, but that will pass unless I lead them on.

Do you have something you are working towards, something that YOU really want?
Yes, but its non specific, so sometimes I get lost a bit

If you had all that sorted, do you think you’d feel happier?
Yeah, I think I would for a bit, but then I ‘d be bored :-)

———————————-

How’s your love life?
Non-existent by choice. There are female friend I care about, but they are of an age where if your a decent guy, and you shag, they want babies. I’m working on finding out if I want that too.

Do you feel your lonely despite the fact that you have a lot of friends ?
Sometimes, I think I am a bit bipolar, but I have paid attention to it. As much as I’d like to think it was deeper than this, it comes down to food and sleep.

Did you seek professional help ?
Yes - was mildly useful, but I’m too brain and distrustful, so I just read all the books and talked to ex-depressed people.

did you talk to somebody ?
Yep - see above

Do you know the cause ?
yes, I have a full house. ( as in poker, not my living arrangements )

How was your child life ?
Absolutly perfect in every possible way… ;-)

MOST IMPORTANTLY : Are you suicidal ?
Was once, but sat there and thought, FTS, if I feel like this, it means that I have complete freedom now to do whatever I want, as doing it the “right way” didn’t work.

When I say I can’t sleep, trust me- it’s not just my usual insomnia. It’s that I literally can’t sleep in this room. It’s… not healthy.

Just taking the opertunity to jump on chev’s clever compliment. It’s true though, people really can share anything here, and while caring through text is limited, I selfishly care as Xeno writes interesting posts.

“Xeno! You can’t die! Life would be boring, then.”

Lol. That’s really all anyone would have to say to stop me if I ever wanted to kill myself.
