Am I too young to be thinking about marriage?

I’m 20 years old and I have been with my boyfriend for a little over 3 years. He hasn’t proposed to me or anything, but we’ve talked about getting married someday. I am just so head over heels in love with this boy, that if he proposed to me tomorrow I would said yes :)

My mom had me when she was 17. Her and my dad got married when they were 20 and have been together ever since. I have a 7 year old sister and a 4 month old brother. They have raised me well and they love my boyfriend. I help with my sister and brother and almost feel like a second mom for them because I am so much older. I honestly feel like I’m ready for marriage. I have a great job and pay my own rent and bills and am doing very well on my own. If my parents can make a marriage last this long, can I?

You can make it last that long, but remember, he is in it too and has to be equally prepared.

Your not too young, but the question is: should I because I can? Honestly if you want to be married now because you want to, you can, but personally I think before you be married and have a lifetime committement, you should wait awhile, to do many things that you want to do first. After you get married, you can still do many things but they would appear to be tougher to accomplish as there will be two people to make decisions and you won’t just be able to get up and walk away to do stuff on your own freedom.

When people say that other people are too young to be married I think it’s because younger people usually don’t know who they are. They are constantly changing and finding out new things about themselves. Therefore, if you find out that you are someone different after marrying young, chances are the marriage wont last. My parents broke up when I was about 6 years old. You’re not to young to be thinking about marriage but don’t fool yourself thinking it’s a bed of roses. Marriage is hard work, and sometimes no matter how hard you work it doesn’t work out. Look at the stats on marriages now. Lastly, values have gone down the tubes since your mom and dad got married. Outside influences can poison a marriage. Make up your mind, but be careful.

My wife and I have been together since we were 16. We are now 33 and have 5 kids. We could not be happier. The best part of it to us is because we got together so young we grow together. Now nothing could ever come between us. We found out who we were together therefor we have become one. Follow your heart my dear.

I am 21 and happily married! It is the best thing that has ever happened to me. Just make sure that he loves you as much as you love him. Live, Love and make memories together.

I am 20 and I wanna get married but I still want to do a lot of things before I settle down and I don’t think that I am too young to get married, it’s just that I have too many dreams to fulfill for now. :D

Just be sure that it’s the right decision. I felt that way towards my boyfriend a year ago and all of a sudden the feeling is gone because I changed and I see things and the world differently now. :D

Good Luck!!

You’re not too young. Love doesn’t care about how old you are; if you feel it you feel it. I agree with those who say make sure your boyfriend feels the same way (though you suggest he does as you say you’ve discussed it).
I’m seventeen and my boyfriend and I have ambitions to get married, so I find myofferings’ words really heartening. Thanks :)
And good luck with your decision!

As long as you’re mature about this and have really talked about all aspects of it (ie, finances, living arrangments, birth control, etc) with conslusive solutions, then you’re old enough to think about marriage.
It sounds like you have been thinking about it and that is excellent because it means you’re not jumping into this without any knowledge of what it entails.
Good luck and kudos to you for being smart enough to really think about this seriously.

Is your boyfriend equally ready? You need to be mature enough too. Marriage is a big, big step. Even if you get married at the age, I would suggest you wait on children. Talk to your mom about this. She might have wished that she could still enjoy being young. Having a child at 17 and getting married at 20 pretty much took away her chances at living life “on the wild side”. Most people would rather spend their twenties hopping bars and going to clubs and hanging out with friends, traveling, etc., than staying home and tending to a husband and child.

Just think about what you are doing.
