house help: i think someone has put a loan on my house. - Help.com

This post left anonymously

i think someone has put a loan on my house.

It just showed up on my homeowner policy. Loan#PO address, city, state. I paid cash for my house, no loans, nothing.

I contacted my ins. agent, she sent a fax and hasn’t heard anything. Doe anyone know how I can investigate this myself?

Thank you

Elizabeth

You should pay a title company to do a title search, that way you will know everything that has transacted to the house since it was built. Just to be safe. Hope this helps :-)

You are entitled to one free credit report a year from all three major credit agencies. Call up and get the credit reports and examine the reports carefully. If you find anything strange call the numbers associated with the accounts. Another good resource is the county clerk’s office. They have a copy of all the recordings. So if there is a mortgage recorded for your address it should be there. It’s usually free but you’ll have to spend a day searching.
