Year help: It’s almost Christmas and I know too much. - Help.com

It’s almost Christmas and I know too much.

I just don’t understand how corporations can live with themselves sometimes. I have worked at the same place for seven years, and because I have connections, have become informed of some very disturbing news. Someone I work with found out through an outside source, that many of our staff will be laid off, and that some of our stores will be closed. I understand that given our economy, that layoffs are neccessary, but how can our corporate office be so cold as to not communicate in any way that these things our coming. We have to learn it from an outside source. While our president rides around in his company paid lexus, and crunches his numbers so that he can keep his lifestyle, there is an unaware group of people feeling safe abou their jobs right now. Why? Because they don’t even know what’s coming. One of them has worked for our company for 30 years. How could the let it happen this way? How can I look her in the face tomorrow, and know that she is thinking about how to celbrate the holiday’s, and doesn’t even know that soon her job will be “termintated”, as it was put. God Bless everyone right now.

The worst part is when the people at the top keep their massive salaries and even bonuses. I’m unemployed right now, knowing there’s so much working against me finding a job right now is frustrating to say the least.
All I can do is keep trying and in the meantime be grateful for the fact that at least I don’t have the looming threat of redundancy hanging over me like so many people do.
All my boyfriend and his workmates can talk about is when the next round of sackings is going to come. There have already been 5 rounds, totaling about 50 people. The most awful thing about this is that it doesn’t seem to matter who the best or hardest working people are. Many of those who have lost their jobs are really being missed (and will be even more so when more work comes in) while there seems to be an excess of those in higher ranks who don’t seem to be worth their inflated salaries.
It’s almost criminal that those towards the top of the ladder are getting away with having played a big part in creating this chaos. Why should the hard-working “little people” pay the price in this mess?
