I would like to dye my blonde hair dark brown.
My hair right now is like a champaign blonde. I want to do something different and dye my hair to a dark, chestnut brown. If I don’t like it, could I easily change it back? Also, would it be ok to dye it at home from a box?

Where were you?

You should try one of those harmless mouse dyes that soften your hair, look great, and only stay in for 30 days to see if you really like it.

It depends.
Is the blonde color your natural color or a dyed color?
If the blonde isn’t your natural color, you’re going to need to tone and bleach your hair before you can even dye it brown. Otherwise, your hair will come out sort of ‘gray’ish. If this is your situation, I’d definitely get professional help.
If the blonde is your natural color and you’re just looking to simply dye your color darker, it will be easier. Just apply the color and there you have it.
Either way, if you decide you eventually want to go back to blonde ..it’s not going to be easy. With that, you’re probably going to need salon help too, or be prepared to have a lot of ‘trial and error’.
I was blonde two weeks ago but went to the salon and dyed my hair brown. I didnt regret it but i do miss my blonde hair. If you try and change your hair back from a very dark brown to a very light blonde you will end up orange probably. So either go lighter in stages like..dark brown, then medium brown , then lightbrown, then dark blonde and then medium ect. But i have found that the brown dye has been washing out and fading each time i wash my hair so i figured that if i washed it enough i might go medium blonde and be able to dye it. but try it brown anyway cause you feel different.
I have done everthing to my hair you can do . If you go a shade darker and use a small botlle of Sally’s hair infusion for 2.99 your hair dye will stay fresh longer. Most real blonde’s don’t need to worry as thier hair always goes back to it’s real color naturally.
And yes it is safe to use home products as well. and cheaper as well.
Try Clariol Products .
I use them and the cheaper the better and they all work well.
Best hair dye I’ve ever used was Ion, from Sally’s.
But it’s best to see what type of hair she has first ..because if it is already died, she needs to be careful how she dyes it. It could easily turn gray.
I dyed my mom’s hair from dark brown to streaked with red and blonde, and we just used Revlon and it worked quite well, and she says her hair feels really soft and good. ;)
I just dyed my hair dark brown today, and I had very light blonde hair. I used the garnier stuff (is that how u spell it?) and my hair came out just like it looks on the box.
i dyed my hair brown today and it was brown. as long as you use temporary it will be fine. and then if you like in ye it the same color permanently. brown hair is more sophisticated, good luck.
i went blonde when i was 17 went to go back to brown got a home dye BIG mastake it went a kahki green went to a salon was told i should have dyed it red first the end resault was a lott better than my first attempt. good luck

I am only 12 and have dyed my hair about three times. My hair is naturally dirty blond but i have dyed my hair a little blonder each time. My hair now is a light blond, but not to light. i am scared i am going to ruin my hair by dying it to many times so i decided to go to a light brown……..what color will it turn out to be!!! Help!!! im dying my hair tonight…..i need to know what color!!!
thanx alot…..nikki
I dye my hair myself anymore, every month. I used to go to a salon when I wanted highlights and lowlights, but otherwise I just do it at home now. I did go to another beautician after my normal one shut down and she made me look like an orange leopard. It was horrible, plus 10x more expensive. My hair is naturally a light to medium brown with hints of light red in it when sunlight and certain indoor lights hit it. I went light to medium blonde with lighter blonde highlights, with reddish brown lowlights. I go back and forth from medium to dark blonde all the way back to light to medium brown by myself, at home. I have been using Clairol, Nice’n Easy, because it has 3x highlights into the color and looks professional also. As long as you pay attention of what it says on the box about the color you should be fine. I’ll get to the point, the reason people usually get a greenish or gray color when they dye their hair is because they’ve used an “Ash” when they didn’t need to. Just remember, if you want to minimize the golden or red tones, then choose a color with “Ash” in it. If you want to add Golden or Red tones to your hair, then choose color that says golden, reddish, or warm in it. If you want to bring out the natural effects of your hair, choose a neutral or natural color; it has soft beige tones that neutralize and bring out the natural colors in your hair. Check for that on the boxes and you should be doing ok. And remember; if you don’t like it; it’s not like you have to keep it a lifetime. I’m actually dying my hair in just a few minutes from a dark blonde with strawberry highlights to a medium brown. So, just read all the info about the colors, pick one, and just do it. That’s why they make hats; if you hate it that much, lol. Anyways, hope all that rambling helped you out.
Hey, Me again, lol. I forgot to mention that I did actually switch this time for Clariol’s Nice’n Easy Colorolgy to Clariol’s Nice’n Easy-Perfect 10. I had a friend that used it and her hair looked great and very healthy weeks afterwards. And I had been hearing very good things about throughout magazines, hair magazines, and etc.. So, I thought I would give it a try. Waiting right now to rinse. The great thing is that is really does only take 10 minutes. :-)
so i am really blonde and want to dye my hair brown!!
BUT, i did it last time and it had a green tinge to it.. i dont want it to have a greentinge this time.. what do i have to do for it not to go the green tinge way?
I heard a red rinse will help??
my hair is blonde with brown in it i would like to color it a dark color would it be safe to do it at home.
my hair is dry and a little burned what products do u recommend i use to make my hair healthy again
It would be far better to make a new post instead of randomly blabbing on a five month old post.
Hmm I’ve been reading all these comments and they are great.
I’m kida having the same problem.
At the moment I’ve got a ugly warm light brown (which sort of looks orange) with half head of blonde foils, and I hate it, besides it’s damaging and expensive to maintain.
So I want to go and purchase home hair dye to cover it all. I was think a chestnut brown or even medium-dark brown. After reading most if not all of the comments I gather that I cannot do this at home and that I should see a proffessional.
Does everyone else agree?
Please help.

i recently went to the salon and got rid of my blonde highlights, they put a toner in it which went red, then dyed it dark brown over it. i love my hair now cos it’s pretty dark. one thing is that i had blonde hair extensions and now they obviously can’t be used. just wondering if anyone knows how to dye blonde extensions dark brown? they’re 100% human hair also.
thanks
ive had platinum blonde hair (highlighted) for the past 6 years, and dyed it dark brown-with a box of revlon, a month ago. The color came out fine, it wasn’t grey, green, any color as mentioned above. It faded in 3 weeks. If your hair has been highlighted/bleached it doesn’t hold color very well, so if you get a semi-permanent color, don’t worry about it not returning to blonde. I also have hair extensions, they are good quality real human hair, I dyed them dark brown with the same box dye and they match perfectly. the only problem is, they hold the color better and don’t fade as quickly as my real hair, and you do have to make sure when you are dying them to leave the dye on longer than you would on your real hair, or the pigment will be lighter and uneven

thats what i’ve been reading aswell. I got my hair dyed blonde, on top & brown underneath few months ago now. and i’m going to go & buy a box of red & dark brown from the shop 2day to dye it back brown. Hope it works. Maybe get a piece of ur hair & dye it the red first then wait & dye it wit the brown afterwards, and see what colour it turns out, if safe then dye all ur hair with the colours. But remember to try & get the strongest blonde piece of hair to test first too see what colour it changes.. good luck :-)
Thanks for all the posts, they really do help.
DONT DO IT!! thats exactly what i wanted and i used a semi permanent color. my hair was light blonde with natural highlights and low lights in it. i dyed it all a dark shade of brown a little more than 2 months ago and it is practically the same. it was great and different for a few weeks but when ur ready to go back to ur natural hair color it is practically impossible. it sucks. so just a warning. its probably something u dont want to do.
My hair is a natural black but a while back I did blond highlights with brown. But I want to go back to my natural hair color (black) and my roots are come out about 2 to 3 inches. Could I get Feria from Loreal and just get a dark black to cover the hightlights?
can anyone tell me if they had blonde hair oh wait… i mean REALLY blonde hair and they died it reddish brownish and it was ugly on them? cuz i want to die my natural blonde hair reddish brownish and im worried it is gunna be ugly on me. and im also only 10 yrs old so will it dammage my hair? someone plz help!
10 year olds should not be dying their hair and if you do u need an adult to help you or u can bet its not gonna come out right. its not as simple as it seems whether ur doing it out of a box or not
