Cellphone Interview -

A friend of mine’s cell phone went off during a job interview. My friend apologized, said he was turning it off and proceeded to do so. My friend was denied the position because they thought he answered the text message during the interview and was therefore distracted and unfocused during the process… They liked everything else about him, demeanor and experience was fine…

Is it fair to penalize a man, who has just arrived back in his native country from a month long holiday the day before, for leaving his cell phone on by accident during a job interview? Is that a valid reason to discount everything else he has done?

All you can really do is make an appeal to them. Ultimately they can choose whomever they wish to hire. Sounds like a pretty lame reason to me though.
