college help: What documents do I need to bring to the American Embassy to apply for a tourist visa to go to US? - Help.com

What documents do I need to bring to the American Embassy to apply for a tourist visa to go to US?

I wanted to go there after I finished college. I am from Malaysia.
I have gathered some information and the only thing that I get is on the payment.

1. You birth certificate.

2. Your local identification.

3. Your fingerprints taken at a local police station.

4. A certificate where it says that you are not a criminal, a terrorist, or an enemy of your local government from your local police department.

5. The fee for the visa. Whatever that is in your country.

For further questions contact the local American Embassy. They should have a more complete list of the things you need so they don’t delay the processing of your visa.

The sooner the better because sometimes it takes a long time.

Finger print? how do I do that? I don’t even know if we have those here. (lol)
Certificate to be sure that I’m not a criminal? Thanks for that!! I never thought of it. :D

I want to be sure to bring all of the necessary documents because the American embassy is located in East Malaysia and I lived in West Malaysia which is separated by the sea and the only way to get the is to travel through airplane and it will be very costly so if it’s possible I don’t want to miss anything and I know that it takes some time for the visa to be approved (or not) and I need to go for an interview.

what should I expect during the interview?

I’ll try the website. I’ve only tried www.vfs-usa-my.com. Thanks.

The United States makes it very hard to visit here unless you are from a Western country (Europe). They do this to prevent people from illegally staying here. You need to show bank account (or equivalent) statements to prove you have the money to come here, and you need to show that you have a good paying job in Malaysia, or own a home, to show that you have significant reasons to return to Malaysia.

That’s the problem. I am still living with my parents but I have a steady job which I have been there for more than 2 years now. What if I had a sponsor? Someone who can support me during my duration of stay? A friend who lives there? Will that do me any good?

I’m not sure but I think you might be able to get some kind of sponsor. My mom is trying to get a return visa to the UK and she said something about the british Boy Scouts organization that she was working for while she was there is trying to get her one.

So if it’s possible in the UK it probably is possible here too. There should be information on a US government website somewhere.

Well, there are some websites.

It is easier for the people in Europe to go to US and Americans don’t even have to apply for a visa to get in Malaysia!! Not fair!!

Anyways,
Still hoping for a miracle to happen, maybe someone would come here and help me deal with everything!! Too complicated!

A lot of the restrictions became a lot tighter after 9/11. Plus we are having huge illegal immigration problems.

While I don’t think it’s fair to the people who want to come here legitimately like you, I can sort of understand why the restrictions are so tight now.

It would be nicer if there was more leeway between security and freedom, sadly though there isn’t :(

I know it’s because of the 9/11 incident. Well, just hope for the best for me okay?

I’ll keep my fingers crossed, hopefully they will realize you aren’t a terrorist and let you in :)

Hmmm. good luck. I know that (especially right now) it is extremely hard for an Asian to get into England or America, but once you have already been I think it gets a bit easier. Being able to show bank account details is important. What you really need to do is to save up the largest amount of money that you possibly can. They want to know that you won’t simply run off and become an illegal immigrant when you get to the country, and they want to know that you have enough money in your bank to live on over there for quite a while. Some girls go to these places, run off, run out of money, and then turn to working illegally or even prostitution, so you would need to do whatever you could to show that you are a safe bet…background checks, education, employment history, family details, land ownership, etc. A sponser is definately the fast track to getting there in 6 months or a year or 2 years, and without that you will find it hard to get anywhere. Most Asian girls just seem to rely on the devoted boyfriend or Fiance to try and get them over, as this can make things easier. And if the guy has money, then the man will often pump money into the girls bank account so that she can show the readies to immigration…..I do not reccomend doing this however unless you can find someone really nice. I have heard horror stories from both sides, asian and foriegner

I just want to go and visit for maybe a month. Haha. But hey, that really helps. I will be going to Eastern Europe in May. I know I need to save up a lot of money and I don’t have any boyfriend of fiance there. Just some friends I know from here and now it’s my turn to visit them there. And I don’t rely on them that is exactly why I ask this question!!

So, I need to give my Certificate of Education, My letter of appointment as well as from my boss to certify that I am not going to be there for long. I guess I’ll ask again when the time is near. It won’t be until next year. :D
