well i have this forgien exchange student from the czech republic.

the more i learn about him the more i dislike like him and he just so happens to be staying of all places my room and im 18 and it seems like my mom favors him over me, and my brother who also feels the same way, so if i fuss over it my mom gets angery quickly and then both my parnets say if you dont like it here “LEAVE!?!?!?” which i would but if i do the likelyhood of colledge is gone i probly just join the military and never finesh high school. i just want my parnets not to try to make me feel guilty and have to move out. i need someones support. i tried to look up any help online but all the sites are to deal with rebelling teens. am i not allowed to have an opion??

Instead of acting like a brat, why not make this Czech student feel welcome and not only make a friend for life, but further international relations? You have a golden opportunity here, and you are flat wasting it.

Good! Now, remember . . . this student is a stranger in a strange land. Be his friend! Don’t get upset over small stuff! Imagine how you would feel if the situation were reversed!

Remember the rules of hospitality . . . you need to go out of your way to make him feel welcome. Get him to talk about things in his country, and remember that his country was ravaged by the Nazis. His family was undoubtedly greatly affected. And his country recently split away from the former Czechoslovakia, and its economy isn’t the greatest right now.

Also, the current situation is not forever. Tough it out. Be gracious. Be hospitable. One day this student could be a prime minister, and he’ll be charting a course for his country . . . and he’ll be thinking how he was treated in the USA when he makes his decisions.
