Part 2: “Why the hell should I share my presents with you?
”
Since Dr. Foreman closed his original “why the hell should I share my presents with you?” post justtt as I was about to press “send” on my reply… I’ve included his original post & my reply. I hope he doesn’t mind.
His post:
“Seriously. Why should i have to share my christian holidays with Atheists? The Jews don’t partake, neither do Muslims or Buddhists, or Hindus. So what gives atheists the right to partake in christian holidays like Christmas and Easter? ”
My reply (after having read several replies from others):
If what matters to some of you is merely the ideals of sharing and giving- wonderful ideals which should inspire celebration & days off work as well in my opinion- or, for that matter, receiving & getting days off work & exposure to holiday parties, then make up yr OWN Holiday centered around such. I don’t really mind atheists taking part in my christian celebration, but Dr. Foreman has a point. I don’t support the distortion of our holiday. I respect other religious holidays, I would like my own to be respected as well. Also, I love learning of other cultures, religions, and traditions, so I wouldn’t be opposed to attending those outside my own as long as there is mutual respect by all parties involved. Make your own.. then we can all have more days off of work :] Peace & love people.. relax.
