I need to know about color modes on photoshop cs3.
its for a graphic design class i’m takeing and the teacher gave us this HUGE homework assignment today thats due tomarrow. i need to answer these questions:
What are the diffrent color modes used for, and which ones can be used for print, web, or both? explain why.
How do you change the color modes in photoshop? > i pretty much got that one, you just go to Image Menu and selcet Mode then choose which one you want. i think. correct me if i’m wrong.
What color mode gives you the most filter options?
>> i already know that CMYK stands for Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black and i know that that one is used for printing becuase those are the colors that printers use to make colors on the paper. it dose that useing certain amouts of dots per inch (dpi). but i don’t know why you can’t use it for web images. or can you? ug!! i’ve been reserching for hours and i still can’t find it! its midnight over here and i still have so much to do! i also know that RGB stands for Red, Green, Blue and is the color thingy that screens of all kinds use, so thats what you want to use for web. but why can’t you use it for printing? and what about Gray Scale? is that for web, printing, or both? and how about Lab? ug!! not to menchen Duo Tone! i under stand what due tone is, but i don’t know is you can use it for web, printing or both! and why! please please help, i can’t use wikipidia because of its inacuracy.
This assignment is worth 500 points. on other words, half our grade. Ex: if someone had a C and failed this asssignment, they would then haev an F.
i need this info tonight. thank you!

Dude, I’ve taken the same type of course before, and trust me, you learn more and have way more fun by just playing around with the program.
but its due tomarrow!! i’ll fail if i don’t complete it!
he didn’t really give us much to go on, he pretty much just wrote that stuff on the white bord and said ‘answer these’
If a teacher expects you to know something, they taught it to you.
If he didn’t, then you can yell at him for it.
Unless he’s testing your information-gathering / research skills, which seem doubtful from a Photoshop course.
hmm… i’ll cheack my note from weeks ago to see if theres anything. but info gathering and reserch skills are vital it a graphic designer, so that may be the case.
If it IS information gathering, it’s a bit early at your level, but okay.
What it means is the answer is on Google.
is there anything you can tell me about color modes and which ones are good for printing, web, or both?
my notes are not the most religable, but i tka emore then just about everyone else in my class

Yes, and I will tell you, even though I dislike helping people cheat. Hence all the questions, I’ll tell you if you really don’t have it anywhere.
yes! thank you so much! and its not cheating, i really want to learn the tade with my whole heart, so i’ll make sure i know this stuff in the end! thank you!! -hugs you and crys-
Okay, here’s two things. One, it’s your answer, and two, it’s me asking you not to lie to me again.
Search google for “Photoshop color modes”. It’s the first site.
i haev been, but all the sites i went to just said the ‘matter o factly’ stuff, they didn’t tell me about wheather or not you can use them with printers, or on the web or both, and why. except CMYK i found out that those are the colors used by printers to create color iulsions on paper. but it didn’t tell me if you could use it on the web, or if not, why you can’t use it on the web.
that website says “The RGB color mode. The RGB color mode should be used for images that will be viewed onscreen, such as on a Web site or in a PDF file.”
yes, but why? thats the thing that all the sites are missing
Lol, I get it. Okay, I’ll play Xeno the Teacher Dragon for a bit. No worries.
First off, do you know what the letters stand for?
Red Green Blue. Cyan Magenta Yellow Black. Luminance a b. and….then theres duo tone and gray scal
Okay. Now, this is the tricky part. Even I f**k it up sometimes. Which one is for printing?
That would be CMYK.
Definition: One of the color spaces used in graphics software. This color space is based on the ink colors used in traditional full-color commercial printing: C yan, M agenta, Y ellow, and blac K. In general, it is best to edit your images in RGB color mode because many software features and commands will not be available in CMYK mode. Converting your RGB images to CMYK should be one of the final steps before sending your image to a commercial printer (Also see Out of Gamut ). Although your inkjet printer may use these four colors of ink, you do not need to convert images to CMYK for printing on consumer-level desktop inkjet printers. In the case of desktop printers, the RGB to CMYK conversion is handled by your printer driver.
thank you so much for helping me!
‘many software features and commands will not be available in CMYK mode’ why?
‘Converting your RGB images to CMYK should be one of the final steps before sending your image to a commercial printer’ why? >i think its becuase thats what printers use in there color dots. dpi
I’m not sure WHY, actually. My photoshop 7 teacher, the first time I’d ever used the program told the class, “Look, you just don’t want to use CMYK, ok? CMYK is… well, it’s f**ked, okay? Don’t use it for anything but printing.”
The guy was weird.
But I loved the quote so much, I wrote it in my textbook, which I still have and use often.
thats your teacher? … he is weird. so you don’t know why ‘many software features and commands will not be available in CMYK mode’?

lolz its funny that a teacher said that. with my teacher, if you give him the right answer (the matter-o-factly kind), he’ll say “why?” and thats why homework from that class is so hard. lol
You can honestly say that you don’t remember if he asks you verbally. In that case, he can’t penalize you for it, as he can’t grade you on in-class answers without telling you.
I have to go for now, but I’ll respond to anything else when I get back.
