life help: I am a 15 year old girl, and i’ve had thick hair ever since i was little. - Help.com

I am a 15 year old girl, and i’ve had thick hair ever since i was little.

However, im letting it grow out (its a couple inches past shoulder length), and it seems like its been falling out more and more. when i get out of the shower and comb through my hair with my fingers, it seems like im losing 20-40 pieces of hair, not to mention all that is left in my brush and the hair that just falls out during the day. ive never had to worry about this before, but i really dont want thin hair and i keep freaking out when i see strands everywhere! Ive only dyed my hair twice in my life, and not in the last 3 years. i dont use product on a daily basis, unless i blow dry, then i use heat protecting cream. i wear my hair up in pony tails most of the time. i really don’t know if im just being crazy, or if i should do something differently. HELP PLEASE!!!

Perhaps you should let your hair down more often. Wearing it up too tightly can pull some out. Long hair has more natural breakage than short hair. If your roots and ends look healthy…relax.

Ponytails can definitely cause hair to fall out. So can harsh brushing, not drinking enough water, harsh shampoos, chlorine, etc. Don’t worry too much! Unless you can actually see it thinning it’s probably not a problem.

Also, brushing when its wet causes breakage.

My dear, Listen

you better check your Shampoo and the products your using on your hair.
A) Use a gentle baby Shampoo and try to use wide toothed comb to comb out your hair.
B) Never Ever BRUSH your Hair when ITS WET.

C) Improve your diet, take more fruits and minerals along with protine in your food.

D)Oil Massage your hair, We in India do it very often and it works magic for your hair.
-If you want to know how to prepare and which oil to use.
Let me know.

Don’t stress too much as it also promotes hair-fall etc
you’ll be good.

Cheers

Well, the average person sheds 50-100 hairs per day. However, ponytails can cause a lot of breakage. (I know first hand) :( But I also have pretty long hair, so I do think that makes things worse? I dunno.

Because your hair is thick and most likely heavy, maybe consider getting some layers. Also, only use the ponytails WITHOUT the little metal piece. :) And a good leave-in conditioner would really help. (Get one that is like a serum, not the thick lotion kind or the watery ones.)
