What do I tell the parents?
I feel like such a loser lol. So there was this job that I really wanted and had a pretty good chance at getting, but I messed up the interview (was incredibly sick that day and could hardly think straight), so I didn’t get the job. There’s no chance of me trying to explain that I was sick, or even reapplying for another year. Anyways, I made the mistake of telling my parents about this awesome job and all the cool things it has… And now I didn’t get it lol. I hate when I get rejected from anything because my parents make a huge deal out of it and are very superficial around me for a few weeks. To avoid that, I’m going to tell them that I did get the job but found out something bad about it so I’m not taking it. Any suggestions on what it could be? Thanks.

Where were you?

Maybe you could do a lot of pushups and situps and run around until you’re strong enough to just say the truth.
sorry that’s not what you asked for.

No, I want to avoid that altogether. I hate when people pity me.
Just curious, but what country do you live in exactly? Greenland? Canada? It’s pretty far up north if I do say so myself.
Nope, US. I put Greenland because Kangerlussuaq is a pretty cool name.
I would tell them, you just didn’t get the job. No excuses—who knows why you didn’t get the job, you might feel it was because you were sick, but in some cases they already have people lined up—or they’re looking for something specific. You never know.
No, I’ve been through this before with them and I’m not telling the truth in this situation.
I just want help finding an excuse where I wouldn’t take the job. It’s already minimum wage, so nothing that has to do with the money.
BTW, Times, if you do really live in Silver Spring, I live really close to you lol.
Kuvri what do you WANT to do? Maybe you could work on diversifying your resume, or getting more training or just saying no to ****, minimum wage jobs.
It may be minimum wage, but it really is an awesome job. It’s basically a park ranger in the mountains, but without the cool badge. I’m fairly sure it was the interview because I do have quite an impressive resume for a 19-year old if I may say so myself :P.
Why not try joining the park police? They definitely don’t make minimum wage… :D College Park was hiring for a while—
I will look into that but I have a tight schedule as I’m taking 18 credits next semester as well >:( and this job had the perfect schedule for me. I only had to work from Saturday sunrise to Sunday sundown and could work on homework in the cabin. Oh well. I may reapply next year, we’ll see.
Maybe you should focus on school. I mean saying hey–this isn’t going to work for me because I have a full course load and I don’t want to screw up my GPA isn’t a bad thing.
That is extremely helpful. I may actually tell them that. Thank you! (now I just have to get good grades to show I didn’t just waste time) :P
If you want your future to hinge on education—you have to follow thru with it. You also have to work on your CV—which means volunteering, and getting involved in things which help to diversify your portfolio.
So many kids out of college—don’t have experience which is important to get employed. Believe me…
I lived in College Park, and any one of us should be creative and smart enough to whip out a little cover story…. but … it’s hard to think about, it just doesn’t seem the best thing to do. Maybe telling more detail here about the job will get better answers? Gotta go, good luck.
^^^ sorry, missed the fact that there was advice already, it hadn’t showed up to me.
i think u should tell the truth and run. run 4 ur life! i hate wen im rejected 2 cuz it makes m feel that im unappreciated
lol they won’t be mad… they just act all weird around me, like a kid who’s puppy just died.
