Say that’s a personal question you’d rather not answer.

Yes. If you believe there’s nothing up there at all, it’s atheist.
If you believe in an undefined “something” it’s agnostic.
there are also other branches.

Yeah. Lots of people don’t. It’s still a personal question.

Or agnostic, sometimes.

You could say, Agnostic which means your not exactly atheist but you’d rather believe in something you hear, touch, see and feel.

I’m thinking that maybe you haven’t really explored your spiritual side enough to say what you believe. Maybe attend some different churches and read up on some religions. And yes, it is a personal thing - that’s why you should make up your own mind about it.

I used to be Evangelical, then I discovered my beliefs fell closer to Unitarian. If anyone ever asks me I just tell them that I’m still trying to figure it out.

that’s just a matter of believing, isn’t it?
i just have this thought, why is it so hard to convince ourselves of the existence of God, Heaven, Hell and whatnot on the basis of ‘not proven’, whereas it would be so much easier for us to believe in the existence of aliens, ghosts and other ‘paranormal’ as such while it was also never been indisputably proven as well?

who says those things would be easy for us to believe in either?… I have the type of personality (and yes it is a personality, an INTJ, not stubborness or cold-heartedness or whatever else you would like to label it) that strives for truth based on evidence and not emotion. I am a Christian, at least as much a Christian as anyone else who claims to be, and what really scares me about it (sorry if I’m taking away from the original post) is that when I really started delving into what the Bible actually said, and doing some outside research, I found that I couldn’t find a true answer and instead of my faith growing MY FAITH WAS WEAKENING. Explain that to me. Scared me to death, when I was already worried about salvation and what it really meant and whether I’d really attained it through some mystical special prayer or the ambiguous terms “acceptance” or “faith” or “belief”- which apparently, belief is not the only thing you need, since the demons also believe?? haha (I know i’m paraphrasing terribly, but if anyone is offended then i’ll find the exact verses and post them), even though the most quoted bible verse EVER says that if you believe then you’re good! so it’s belief but it’s more than belief, something else, and most people say that it’s belief that has to come from your heart but WHAT DOES THAT MEAN? “Oh, believe from your heart, ya know? Just believe. That’s all you gotta do.” Well, maybe that’s easy for some people but to me it just doesn’t make sense and it seems so based on emotion. I’m not saying emotions or feelings are bad but gahhhhhhhhhhh i’m sure you’d agree that emotions aren’t the most accurate thing. In any case… another reason why people may be more apt to say that they believe in supernatural things or ghosts is because a lot less is at stake. When it comes to eternity and the meaning of the universe and our/my existence, I’d like to be right. And to me that means more than learning about Jesus in Sunday School when I’m 6 or 8 or whatever age and then getting a “feeling” (when OF COURSE YOU’RE ALREADY APT TO GET SOME SORT OF “FEELING” BECAUSE EVERYONE’S TELLING YOU THAT YOU SHOULD HAVE A FEELING AND IT AFFECTS YOUR MENTALITY)that means God is talking to me. :( And please don’t tell me that I should read my bible more and pray to God more. Because I’ve tried that. A lot. And I understand that most people have an easier time believing because to them it’s just “natural”. But it isn’t to me. I’ve worried about this stuff since I was 8. (19 now) And I’m worn down paper thin. So have some sympathy for the doubters. They’re not always cold-hearted or stubborn or just don’t want to abandon their sinful lives. At least one of them, and probably many more, wishes more than anything that she could be assured- but her own mentality struggles to allow it.

I believe that religion is a journey that every individual has to make on their own. Of course it can be a very lonely journey because faith is a personal issue. You can always ask others questions and listen to their ideas and opinions. You can always read books about the various religions and philosophies of the world. You can always use logical or emotional thinking to analyze these deep questions. And you will find lots of good ideas that you may or may not want to believe in.

But the hard part is when you ask the question “Do I really believe this?” This is a hard question because this question is something that you are not asking your physical body, but a question that you are asking your soul; that powerful divine spark that exists in the depths of the mind of the individual.

There is a website called beliefnet.com that has a religion quiz on it. Now it’s a basic test and just a starting point but you may start with the religions that come out at the top. Then you can branch out from there. I will also suggest that there is nothing wrong with affiliating oneself with more than one religion. Far too often people fail to recognize the vast interconnected web of all things by trying to find a label for themselves. The only advice I can offer on this front is try to find meaning rather than get hung up on words and precise definitions. There is more to life than categorizing people under labels.

Good luck on your journey.
