Things do look awfully dim right now, I understand that. But try and take things one step at a time. People in much worse straits than you are have turned their lives around, and you can to. Other have been right about saying the most important thing right now to deal with is the prosecution. If your only source of representation is the public defender, then make sure you take an ACTIVE role in what’s going on. Don’t just let that person roll you over. Ask lots of questions, make sure you understand everything that’s going on, make sure you get answers to your questions. Don’t be passive about this.

I just saw from a new reply by you that you are going to try to obtain funds to work things out - I assume you mean for a paid attorney?

Once the prosecution issues settle out and you know what’s going to happen, then you are going to have to make some decisions. What do you want out of life? What are you doing to make that happen? Have you had any time to think about more long range plans?

The only thing you can’t do for sure IF you are convicted of a felony is vote and hold public office (in some states). I believe you said you are in the US, right? So you can still go to college, etc. It just may be more difficult, but if you truly push yourself forward, you can still do it. Why did you think being a felon would prevent you from everything you want to do, long term?

Ah, so what you are saying is not that you don’t have options, but just that you don’t think you have the strength to pursue them. And that’s a tough one.

But I can tell you this, suicide is final (obviously), and you have no idea what’s coming down the road for you or who’s path you will cross during your life. You have no idea who you will impact or who will impact you. Perhaps you should know that something like 95% of everyone who survives a suicide attempt regrets even trying.

I am, I was actually looking up the stats on the suicide attempt regret (I had seen that on this site before). And I wasn’t finished, so I’ll keep going, so stand by. I’m not the world’s fastest typist, unfortunately . . .

Sometimes, just having the strength to do something is the hardest thing to do. I’ve found myself in that position many times, even with stupid stuff like starting a project at work. So I totally get how you feel incredibly overwhelmed by what’s been thrown at you.

and yeah, i’m the world’s slowest typist and i always feel like i have to revise/proof everything before i hit send, even though I don’t do a very good job at catching mistakes!

so let’s deal with the specifics, and yeah, you’re gonna get the motivation to do this cuz i’m staying with you while we focus on this. So, you are getting the $$$ to hire an attorney, instead of using a public defender?

OK then let’s talk about the public defender option. did they assign you one yet?

Cuz you can get decent representation from a public defender IF you are willing to take an active role in things. Like I said, you gotta ask questions and make sure you understand answers. You gotta be willing to be a pain in the a__ with your persistance, but still be respectful while doing it so you don’t shut the attorney down.

And if you don’t mind my asking, what state do you live in?

And let’s talk about that corruption a little bit. Tell me how. Meaning the prosecutors/DA/police pay them off? Tell me what you know and what you have. . .

I do take your word for it, but if you have something that can be used, then you want to use it!

are they friends? could you ask them to write a statement (just handwritten is fine for now) that the bag wasn’t yours? and did they have it to sell, or were they holding it for someone else?

who advised you to say you were in possession of the bag at one time? was it the public defender?

and most importantly, was that true?

Did you request counsel before that?

that’s really important . . .cuz if you requested counsel, but were denied it, and then made that statement, it could be tossed out.

yes - BEFORE you made the statement about having possession of the bag

YES! And you were denied it, right?

YAY! So here’s what I want you to do - RIGHT NOW! Write down exactly what happened (who was in the room, who said what, and when) at the time you requested counsel and at the time you made the statement. Write down every detail you can remember, even if you don’t think it’s important. Write down what EVERY person said, paying particular attention to the reactions to your request for counsel. include as much detail as possible.

And I don’t mean write it on here - write it in Word or something and save the doc. I would be happy to look at it if you want to e-mail it to me. I’m gonna go see if I can figure out how to make it so you can do that now (I’m not really well versed in what all this site can do, but I know there’s a way to do that).

k - so where in there did you request counsel? Like I said, it would be best to write this in Word or in an e-mail, not here. You need details, names, etc. - even things like who was in the room when things were said.

They didn’t have to ask you if you wanted a lawyer. But did you tell them you wanted counsel or representation at any point, and if so, when?

On not taking you out of school, I don’t know anything about that, so I’d defer to what your lawyer said.

If you were truly in a custodial position (sounds like you were), they did need to ask. But if you asked for counsel, it makes your position even stronger in perhaps getting the statement thrown out. Did the attorney you talk to mention this?

So did they assign you a public defender yet?
