I have a passion and a talent for art and I can’t do anything with it.

Its getting to the point where I hate even doing my art because I don’t see the point. It all just sits and sits and sits and sometimes it gets messed up and it just reminds me of my failure. I had to drop out of a private art college that I got accepted to because i couldn’t afford it. That was my dream and it was taken away from me because my family is poor. How can I become a famous artist without going to school? People don’t have money to buy art these days, but its my skill, my talent, my dream. I’d love to be a comic book artist but I just don’t have the tools to make the finished, professional end product that I need to get noticed. What to do!

Consider working as an artist in the entertainment industry. Layout drawing and painting for animation is one, or 3d art, digital art. I’m talking about animation, advertisement, set design, movies that kinda thing. Making a living merely selling your art really is impractical, you can also go for illustration for books, magazines and advertisement. Find a niche, and a style, and gear your portfolio to it, research your industry and find out what the ideal employee skillset is like, and acquire the skills you need to know.

Have you tried looking at any other art schools? Ones that are less pricey.

For now though you can try sending your art to different magazines, see if they have any internships at any publishing companies near you. Just do some research, if you’re good at what you do and are willing to keep up some persistence, despite many a closed door, someone is going to take notice.

Have you thought of doing practicing your art where there are lots of people? You know Van Goh was discovered like that.

you don’t need to be rich to be noticed.
and you don’t have to present a perfectly polished finished product….

if you’ve got a good idea, present it the best you can, and send it around to publishers etc.
its their job to make it look all fancy for selling.

A kid in my High School had his own comic books he passed around and now he’s rich and famous… this was when all we had were mimeograph machines to copy things. If you had ambition you could do what you wanted… it sounds like you just want to complain.

I think I understand where you’re coming from. I did manage to go to Art school, but when you finish you’re still on your own. I di something even less practical, ie Fine Art painting, but wish now maybe I should have done something like illustration to learn some real practical skills.
I don’t know where you live but can you access Student loans to fund your course or maybe work and also do a course part time. Sounds tough maybe but worth it in the end?
