Love help: I have a chance to get my dream job but don’t know how to tell my current employers that I may be leaving. - Help.com

I have a chance to get my dream job but don’t know how to tell my current employers that I may be leaving.

I know they wouldn’t fire me for looking for another job but they do need to know because we are a small operation and don’t have many people who can cover my position. I am so excited about the new job; I know they are hiring and that I am in good with the owner but I still have to apply and interview. Should I tell them that I would LOVE to work there and that getting the job would be a huge positive change for me or would that seem to desperate and turn them off? I really don’t want to biff the interview! Any advice would be great.

Be enthusiastic! Do your homework and be able to talk about the new company. Ask intelligent questions! Interviewers LOVE intelligent questions!

But do NOT quit your present job until you have a firm offer from the new place.

By the way, there is not a SINGLE employee at your present job who wouldn’t leave for a substantially better offer somewhere else!

your current employer will understand and respect you for giving them notice, two weeks is the respectful time. don’t feel bad for wanting something better for yourself.
As for the interview, be professional, let them know why you want and why you are qualified for the job, but don’t get to personal.
Good luck and I hope you get it…let me know the outcome
