What’s the quickest most effective way to learn to play an instrument?

I’d like to play the piano, but really I just want to be able to read music, so… suggestions?

To have someone hold a gun to your head, give you a tutor, and give you 24 hours to become competent?

Practice, and listen. I’m a musician. Every two hours of practicing should be balanced with an hour of listening to the kind of music you want to play.

You can know everything there is to know about music without playing any instrument. Many vocalists study music theory to understand pitch, intervals etc. If you want to play music though, purchase the theory and method books and find a mentor who can help when you find you don’t understand something. There are a lot of musicians that just want to be helpful and not just to become wealthy. Good luck!!
