When are we going to admit that ‘The Simpsons’ isn’t funny anymore?

It’ll be a sad day indeed when we all finally come to terms with the fact that the veteran yellow caricatures of the American family that have graced our telly-boxes for what is almost 20 years are just not worth watching anymore. I have grown up with the series, and I still set a recording every single night for episodes I have seen a hundred times before. It’s almost like a habit that I can’t break. I needn’t even record them as I find myself not even watching the screen anymore as I know the dialogue off by heart; but recently I have begun to stop laughing and start groaning.
I don’t feel I’m alone. I have many friends with this same “habit”, including my own father, and I would imagine that many of you reading my words may identify with what I’m saying. My concern of course is what would take the place of ‘The Simpsons’ should it disappear from our screens. If we lose ‘Friends’ as well there’ll be nothing on! Of course if we do take a stand perhaps lazy networks may give us something new and fresh.

Just a thought.

I’m glad I’m not the only one to feel this way :(

I think its a plot by Matt, and his team to push for Futarama: I think they are getting board of there own overused product.

I read that Matt wanted to work on Futarama full-time, the the exec’s at fox said no. Sabotage sounds like a logical dicision. Either that or they have hired a bunch of first year comedy writers to save money (credit crunch anyone?).

I hope the lazy networks do give us something that’s fresh!
I’ve had it up to here with all the imported rubbish reality shows!
Although I have noticed that trend is beginning to die it ;)

I downloaded the latest Simpsons episode last weekend. And I have to say…
It was pretty funny. :)

I still watch the Simpsons, and I still think it’s funny most of the time. Of course, I only watch the new ones, not the reruns. If you watch something that’s funny over and over, eventually it’s not funny anymore. Just like if you keep hearing a joke over and over, eventually it’s not funny anymore. I also like watching Family Guy. I think it’s funnier than the Simpsons.

Humour is in the eyes and ears of the beholder!

I would like to present to the court. Exhibit A
Funniest Home Videos!

How does the court of my own personal opinion find the defendant!

Guilty on infinite counts of being unfunny!

Of course there’s better TV out there. But not on Sunday night at 8pm.

Call me a geek, but the History Channel, Discovery Channel, Investigation Discovery, the Discovery Health Channel, TLC, etc. all play their most interesting stuff on Sunday nights.

i don’t think then Simpson’s was ever really that funny it just gave adults an a way to watch cartoons because the Simpsons is an acceptable cartoon for adults to watch. Just face it we all want to go back to the days when we got to watch cartoons every morning. We really don’t want grow up. Inside we are all still kids!

Interesting point. But I think any adult who didn’t really care (like me) about social acceptability would watch anything they felt like.
Including any and all cartoons of their choosing.
I know I do.

But then I refuse to grow up.
I should change my screen name to Peter Pan METHINKS!

Ooooh which Batman?
The 90s animated one… or the anime inspired “The Batman”?

This whole post triggered something in my mind.
I HATE those Harry Potter books with the ADULT covers!
:P

Yeah love those 90s Timms/Dini animations!
Got the entire Superman collection, part of the Batman, two seasons of Justic League, and one of Batman Beyond!

Very good stuff!

Is that the one with the Ant Hill Mob?

Yep :). And every episode is the same, just with different traps and kidnappings of Penelope.
