Jenna entered data about the average basic monthly rate for cable TV service from the years 1970 through 1993 into her calculator.

She obtained this display.
y=ax+b
a=.655010553
b=-43.15682144
r=.9113235732
Explain the meaning of the numbers in the display. How can Jenna use them to predict the rate in the year 2000?

The rate in 2000 will have nothing to do with the rate in 1970. It will depend upon the cable company’s ability to gouge the public without receiving interference from the public service commission! And THAT will depend upon the level of bribes offered to the PSC.
