Confounded, Dumbstruck, and Fascinated.
[Part two of “I wonder”]
———————————————————-Chapter 2
I woke up at seven a.m., yet I only really got out of bed around 7:30.
“Darn school,” I mumbled dorkily to myself.
(I really did like school, it’s just I was extremely exhausted from the lack of sleep I got last night.)
The rest of the morning was like a blur. I was hurrying to get dressed, fix my messy hair, and gather all my books. Once I got out the door, protein shake in hand, I slid into the cold passenger’s seat, waiting for my mom to join me. My mother half-ran to the truck, opened the door, and the rest was history.
I got to school a few minutes early so I had time to finish my incredibly tedious english homework. I walked to my first period class (Gym, totally unlucky, right?), only to find that there was a subsitute sitting by the bleachers.
“YES, thank you Jesus,” I thought to myself, “Maybe this day won’t be so bad after all,”
I made my way up to “my” spot on the bleachers and lightly placed my things beside my feet.
I was half-way done with my work when the bell rang.
My heart was instantly erratic, changing it’s tempo from slow to fast. I would be seeing him soon. He would walk right through the door, peek at me, and then slowly walk to the guy’s side of the bleachers. I probably looked like an idiot to the other girls; glancing up at any sound that was made to make sure I didn’t miss him.
I’ve tried so many times to convince myself that this boy was but a friend, nothing more. Then I realized that every second I am repeating him name in my head, letting it blend in with the billions of other thoughts that were there.
Before my thoughts could go any further, there he was. I don’t usually pay attention to what he wears everyday, but I finally looked at his clothes and realized he dressed fairly well.
“Weird,” I pondered within the privacy of my mind, “I never noticed that before”
I usually only look at his deep, brown eyes. Their full beauty was emphasized behind thin glasses. I was lost, blissfully remembering the time he took his glasses of while talking with me. His eyes, oh man. I couldn’t help but smile while I looked further into the rich, mahogany color.
As I snapped back to reality, I quickly tore my eyes away from his. I always wonder what he’s thinking. I mean, for all I know my face could be deformed to him.
After an intangible amount of time, the boy’s gym class started to leave for the changing rooms. I, along with all the other girls, watched them leave. The only difference between my classmates and I, was that I was looking at who they would all classify as a “nerd”. That’s the only thing that bothered me about my classmates, they all debated on what guy was the hottest in the boy’s class. They also complained multiple times about how we have an overload of impossibly ugly guys in first period gym.
I counted how many times the guy I favored turned his head to glance back at me. Three times. I wonder if he’s been reading my stories.

After an hour, the boy’s gym class was back.
I had finished all of my homework the first 30 minutes of class (since we had a subsitute we had study hall), so you could assume that I was bored out of my confusing little mind. I was glad to see that the guys were pouring in, just because I knew I would be seeing him in a matter of seconds.
There he was! I had successfully spotted him, not that it was hard or anything. I was just in need of something to do, I suppose.
Minutes felt like hours as I waited for the bell to ring so I could get the cirulation back and running in my back-side. Finally, the muffled “blee” sounded, and I was off. Of course, he was trailing behind me.
The hallway was like a maze of people. Everyone is always in your way. You have to twist and turn, and most importantly, dodge. Once I reached the door I pushed it hard and let the wind guide me along.
I was walking the same way as he was, somehow he had gotten infront of me. When I realized this, I tried to make sure he didn’t think I was following him (which I wasn’t), but it seriously did look that way. He turned his head a few times; I could see him looking behind him out of the corner of his eye.
“Dangit.” was all I could think.
He reached the entrance to the A-building, while I was trying to slow down my pace. He looked back at me as he opened the door; he had the weirdest expression. He looked, maybe alert and confused; like a little child who just goes around staring at people he sees. I simply just put that in the back of my mind, and headed for my dreaded math class.
The only thing I couldn’t stop thinking about was how he looked at me. I examined this for a while and thought, maybe he was just checking if I was still behind him, as he was wondering, “Where’d she go?”.
All I know is that his name will still be repeating over and over like a broken record in my head. Thoughts of him will swim around and taunt me while I dream of the impossible.
