Happiness: Science vs Philosophy
Only for those that like a good think. For the two people who are actually up for it, I am so looking forward to discussing this. It will take 30mins but BAM does it have some content packed into that time.

Where were you?

love the ted. But I’m guessing you haven’t watched it yet?
You watched the ted talk on happiness, but you thought it was too simple? What parts did you think were over simplified?
I watched the science video.
Thanks for your input, this is a exciting new study for me.
I was interested in the Science vs Philosophy approach to the subject. There aren’t too many science talk out there. I had personal discovered the main theme of his talk, so I enjoyed hereing the stats on it and how he isolated it. I thought it was a great presentation. I have no issue with things being “too easy to understand”
“Pleasure and money” - are you refering to the philosophy video?
Who gave were the talks that you liked better? Feel like adding a link?

what did you think? Do you agree with his conclution?
Synthetic happiness vs. natural happiness? For me, I had, before watching the video, decided upon pursuing natural happiness. However, I realize now that it is a non-issue for me. The scientist assumes that many situations are unchangeable, but I think there is much strength in humanity to change our existence. Out of all the species on our planet, none is more so equipped today as the human species to reach out and grasp natural happiness. I’ve decided I’m going to go for it.
I’ve started watching the philosophical video, but so far I’m failing to understand how they are opposed.
I couldn’t wait… it still can be, as I think you will get a bigger crowd. I wanted to compare it to the classic aproach. Hurrah for thinking people.

I agree with you. I think one of the reasons I was sad for so much longer than most was that my mind was self aware and not weak. I knew the tricks so they didn’t work. Ignorance and lack of choice is bliss. Still, go for gold!
What did you think about the downside to choice in situations where there was little benefit to that choice?
Opposed? My vauge, it was more of a compare.
Is/are there downside(s) to having a choice in situations where there is no distinct advantage to either choice? If so, what are they?
I guess the main downside is apprehension or worry. I can’t really think of anything beyond that.

Thats the main point I got from the first lecture. The students who were told they could swap the pic, ended up unhappy. Its seems that until closure is reached the mind doesn’t attach onto one idea and make it seem the best. This was huge for me, it gave insight from everthing from broken hearts, love, funerals, advertising, and why the poor people in 3rd world are often so happy.
