What is the punishment for driving minors with a provisional license past curfew?

I was driving four 16 year old kids home from a school sanctioned event at 11 o clock and I stopped the car to look for directions on my phone and the cop pulled up behind us. He gave me a ticket for driving with minors and said I would have to go to traffic court to figure it out. I’ve had my license for 4 months now and I’m worried it will be taken away. What is the average punishment for this and also what’s the worst it can be?

Depends what state you’re in. And if that ticket was exactly for what you say, driving with minors on a provisional license, you might be able to talk your way out of it with a traffic judge. And if the cop that gave you the ticket does not appear in court, you might get off easy. But, I would not do that again. Don’t take your license too lightly. The same way you got it, they can take it away from you just as easily. I would not worry too much. You might just have to pay a $75 fine!

It was in Long Beach California and ya I was just trying to get kids home because their parents were yelling at them. It was a bad decision on my part.

It was not a bad decision. You did what you could under the circumnstances. How old are you?

You’re going to be just fine. Come back and tell us what happened when you go in front of the judge, OK?

i am sort of in the same boat, i am 19 and was with two 16 year olds and i got arrested for contributing to child misconduct..we were not doing anything out of the ordinary other than being out past curfew..is it possible for me to get the charges appealed, i am on diversion for some other legal issues and because of this ridiculous incident, i will probably end up in prison. so just wondering the chances of me getting these charges done away with.

In California, they will take away your provisional license. You can try again when you’re 18… which for you isn’t so bad, right?
