Cakes on a plane!

Sorry I’m being paranoid and probably just a bit daft. There are no rules about taking food in hand luggage, right? As long as it’s not liquid - it’s just weird tasty Asian snacks I need to take home for people.

I’m flying home for christmas!!!!!! EEEEEEEEEEEE!

There are strict rules about the transport of foodstuffs. It depends where you are travelling to and from. If it’s international, you need to be sure that you aren’t falling foul of customs import restrictions.

If its an internal flight, my advice would be to give the airline a quick call and double-check what’s permitted. They all vary. Some don’t allow any, others allow only vacuum sealed.. some don’t seem to mind at all. Their customer service dept. will be able to advise you. Better that than end up delayed while they sort it out!

Happy holidays.

I notice you are in Hong Kong. If you are flying home to UK, you need to check carefully:

http://www.defra.gov.uk/animalh/illeg…

The first site has a number you can call to confirm if your gifts are ok.

Thanks! What I have should be ok, I’m not trying to bring back any of the dried fish or anything, although I know people who do. That would get the security dogs interested in your suitcase!

It’s still wise to check. Certain ingredients are banned. Anything with honey and eggs in can be a problem for example.

If you can’t check in time, be sure to go through the RED channel and state that you are unsure if you need to declare them. That way you avoid any issue of them getting uppity about you not declaring things that should be declared.
