How do you reverse skin lightening?

I have to use this steroid cream for a medical issue, but it bleaches the skin around the area. People use this steroid illegally to lighten their skin sometimes, because it interferes with melanin production. But after the medical issue is gone, how do I reverse this side effect and get my original skin tone back? (I’ll ask my doctor as soon as i get an appointment, but in the mean time i want to make sure it is reversible to see if I should keep using this)

I know Clinique (sp?)or one of those companies make a skin cream that evens your skin tones. It helped me. (When I was pregnant my tummy got a weird patch of discolored skin.. It was weird, but it helped it go away!)
It also keeps your skin moisturized which is also important!
