So I just have a question for all the British people out there.

British rappers try to portray certain parts of GB as really dangerous places akin to South Central LA in the 90s. Maybe it’s my belief that Britain is a much better off country than the U.S., but I have a pretty hard time believing any place in GB could be *THAT* rough.

So what’s up, guys? Tell the truth, are there places in Britain that are really that tough? If so, where are they? Do any of you live in/near those places? If so, what kind of things do you see there?

Thanks for any input, it’s greatly appreciated.

How would you define this different type of “rough”? Are there murders left and right? Gangs and stuff? What’s there that’s rough?

what south london is dump!!

everyone gives it large, trying to be something there not. brittish rappers are gay. and are a huge disappointment. except the streets lol, but thats not really rapping.

i have to say the government has a big part to do with it. we have so many laws and “issues” so people dont complain or get offended, its a joke.

the gang culture down south and places like manchester and liverpool, are high. people mostly getting killed, so other people can be a name.
knife crime is at an all time as well.and more and more guns are being found on the streets of london.

and whilst the government comes out with stupid plans to try and save the youth. its just to save face and money.

I agree.

I can see now what they’re talking about though in their lyrics. I still don’t buy the gangsta act from them though. But then, I don’t buy it from a lot of American rappers.

Thanks Gin.

Thanks for your input. I had no idea it was that rough on certain parts.

Agreed about the rap music thing.

That’s really rough Mas. I’m glad you and yours are okay, but like you said, that *IS* too close to home. Sounds too much like here.

Why do you think it’s like that there?

I think every major city has a rough area. With such a large group of people, there will be some who are like that. They congregate, form gangs, and fight. Why? Who knows. It’s human nature, and those people take it too far.

I have a friend from Athens and she says there’s a rough area there too… Even though you think of Athens as some ancient, historic city.

yeah, but that’s not ongoing violence like there is in ghetto areas… it’s only been about 4 days. also, the violence there sparked “higher up”.

nah not really., its probably like where you come from. you get your good people and you get your bad people.

but like i said, most people down south are just trying to be a name. and the amount of youth crime, and anti social behavior is a joke.

as an adult, if i see a person under 16, giving it large and i step in to help the other person. if i give that person or group of people a slap, im the one who gets in trouble with the law.

people watch to many films, and want to be come “gangsters”.
the true gangsters and mobsters over here, you dont even know about. they keep themselves hidden, as best they can.

There are a lot of rough places in GB. Speaking from what I know in South London there are a lot of gangs. People can’t got to certain areas or you’ll get hurt. Personally they are trying to clone the American lifestlye but it doesn’t really work because they look stupid. In terms of the music from what I hear it’s all heart felt. Don’t get me wrong there are some that try and pretend that their lives are harder than it really is but that must be the same over in the states. What MAS 1st said about someone getting killed whilst skating I know about an incident like that it might be the same one where it happened in Streatham. It’s getting worse because the kids are taking over from 9 years old which didn’t happen before and the oldest members of these gangs are like 40. Britains a much smaller place but it is really rough and getting rougher. To end my point-Britain isn’t as rough as the US, the music is mostly the truth but they are trying to be like the Americans mostly too.

My cousin’s wife is an A&E nurse in Glasgow.
She has told me many times that the number one treatment at all A&Es in Scotland is knife wounds.
A few years back they Glasgow council declared that bars and clubs could no longer serve drinks in glass containers. Too many people were being maimed in fights.

Hi,

Some places in the UK are quite bad/rough. We are getting more teens carrying guns, more shootings. It’s not the same as say south central in the 80’s but it’s getting crazy in London. People get cut up or shot every weekend. The thing that makes this quite scary is that it’s not well known gangs fighting or anything particularly organised, but more random acts of violence. You can be in a club and someone doesn’t like the way you look, whatever, and get cut up. Too much attitude and fear.

Added to that, there is a definite emulation of some elements of US culture, so in that sense things are similar to say Chicago or NY in the 80’s - 90’s.

Peace and chicken grease x
