7 AVG tests ? That sounds odd. Maybe you should uninstall and re install AVG? Sounds like it has issues

Hit Ctrl Alt And Del.

Open the taskbar, click programs, look for your AVG and end the process. Virtual memory low just means to many things are going on at one time. End a few of them and it should be ok, Mine dose it when Im running Limewire,Msn,YT,Myspace and all that at the same time.

Anyway….just dont do any other work when you are using Anti-Virus.
And…AVG 7 pretty weird. Download Avira Antivir its much better than AVG.

Hi Kim, what Jen says should work — sometimes it takes a few times of “ending the process” before it’s actually done. But, alternatively, you could just do something else while your computer is busy with its personal-care activities. And also, in the future, you could perhaps increase your total virtual memory. Perhaps.

(I don’t use Windows so I forget exactly. The normal way is to right-click My Computer, select properties, then advanced, then performance, then virtual memory, I believe. Here is the Microsoft instructions:

# Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then press ENTER.
# Click the Advanced tab, and then under Performance click Settings.
# Click the Advanced tab, and then under Virtual memory click Change.

If you tell me what the settings currently are it might help.

That should increse it, but a thought has just appeared in my head, if you lower down the hardware acceleration, this does solve a lot of problems!

On that screen you can manually set the amount of virtual memory (running program memory that is saved to the hard drive.) The standard recommended setting is twice the amount of ram you have. You can change it to a bigger number — and it may not significantly improve performance but the system would then not run out of virtual memory.

Maybe Ireland can help you find a Virus-Defense system that isn’t as greedy for system resources. (Some are really bad, like McAffe is terrible.)

It just seems like the sort of thing you’d be knowledgable and interested in. I don’t use those programs.

Q1.
Start -> control panel -> display -> settings -> advanced -> troubleshoot -> hardware acceleration and turn it down to as low as it will go.
Q2.
i)
Start -> control panel -> add/remove programs
ii)
If that doesn’t work turn off Computer, turn it back on and keep pressing F8 to bring up boot menu, click boot in safe mode, and then try deleting them from there.

Yes, it is, I have done that also, you mean Java update 1, update 2, update 3 etc. yes, what I actually reccomend is that you download java from the main website and uninstall the rest and that way you are guaranteed of having the most up to date one.
