I have a theory about why we have a two party system in the U.S.
If you look at the issues, each party seems to represent traditional parenting roles, with the republicans symbolic of traditional father roles and democrats representing mother roles. For instance:
Republicans (Father):
supporting capital punishment (discipline)
military support (protecting the family)
support of big business (working to support the family)
Democrats (Mother):
Supporting healthcare (taking care of the medical needs of the family)
Welfare (feeding and nuturing the family)
Pro-Choice (supporting women’s rights and issues)
It’s as if the party’s are “divorced” and squabling about custody (who get’s elected) and financial issues (where the money goes) and the ones that get effected most are the children (public).
I just wanted some feedback about the theory and generate discussion and ideas.
