I need a full explanation of what happened for a specific “diagnosis.”

However, I can give you a list of step to check out what’s wrong and try to solve it. I’m going to assume you have Windows XP on your computer.

Step one: If you normally use speakers or headphones giving you your sound, make sure they’re hooked up to the computer (plugged into the green hole).
Step two: Go to Start menu>>Control Panel>>Sounds and Audio Devices, Then make sure your sound is turned up and not muted.
Step three: Look for a volume dial on the side of your laptop. If you find it, make sure it’s turned up.
Step four: Call tech support.

Go to Start>Control Panel>Device Manager
Select sound, video and game controllers, select your soundcard and click install.
I it doesn’t work try updating the driver via windows update. You can also download the drivers via your laptop manufactures website.
If it doesn’t work, then probably your soundcard is defect. Then you’ll have to take it to a repair shop or repair it yourself. Replacing the soundcard can be very expensive since laptop parts are all onboard. So replacing them will be replacing the motherboard.
Let me know if you need more assistance.

Hope it helps

My laptop did this suddenly, for no apparent reason too! But,I managed to fix it by going to Start > > Control Panel > > Sounds and Audio > > Audio Tab > > First one down > > change speakers to the speakers on your laptop > > click Volume > > if the Wave bar is down turn it up to full.
And VOILA! :D Your sound problem is solved :)
If it isn’t, get some tech help!

okay so i lost mine today!!!! but it is really easy to reset your audio
go to start, click programs at the bottom, then go to accessories then click system tools then system restore, reset it to when you deleted your sound and click restore. and just leave it. when it restarts it your icons might not pop up but
be patient (they will) i was getting worried about that. but it is very easy to do! hopefully this helped :)
