I think I may have screwed up my friendship.
I’ve known this girl at my university about a year and we’ve been great friends. A little while ago she broke up with her boyfriend. Things were going so well with our friendship that 3 weeks ago I told her how I liked her as more than a friend. She said she just wanted to stay friends with me for now because she values our friendship and just doesn’t see me that way. Although it does hurt I’m fine with staying friends with her (there’s more fish in the sea) and I told her that keeping our friendship is most important. Anyways I saw her from time to time after this conversation and when I did I was friendly and just attempted to make small talk with her. She would just try to ignore me, not make eye contact, and insult me when I came around.
I don’t get it. She told me that she values our friendship and that nothing was going to mess it up. We left on that bad note and now we’re on holiday break from university so I’ll have about 4 more weeks away from her. I think that I’ve done all I can I’ll just have to let her do her part to repair the friendship. I wanted to be honest with her which is why I told her that I liked her and she knows that. I don’t think she had any right to treat me like crap after that. I guess I’ll just have to give her space and see what it’s like when school starts back up. My biggest fear is that I’ve ruined the friendship by being honest and telling her my feelings.
