ripping mp3s help: I want to rip my cd collection, what format? - Help.com

I want to rip my cd collection, what format?

I am afraid to rip my collection in just MP3 in case there are better formats later. However, I do not want to rip in AAC or WMA. Is FLAC or some other format the right way to go?

Thanks!

I just rip them as 192kbps constant bitrate for the most part, or 300+ variable… Nohing fancy, but good enough for my ears, though OGG Vorbis’ compression to quality is much better, it’s not much liked by my iPod.

320KB VBR11 MP3 — or FLAC if you’re hard core.
