It depends on many factors. Of course no one wants you to pretend to be happy. But if you were my son or daughter, and you were present for a family gathering I’d hope that you’d at least try to be civil. JJ said it so well… if you try, you just might be surprised how it makes you feel. Here’s the secret. In all of our life, you get to assign the meaning you want to everything that happens to you. AND.. if for some reason you will argue that point, then you at the very least get to assign the meaning of how you will react to something. So… if obnoxious relatives come to the front door singing obnoxious Christmas carols, you can either go run and hide in your room, or you can go get a pot lid and wooden spoon and help them stay on time (if not key).
