Hello,
Does anyone have any ideas on organizing paperwork? I have so many “piles” of forms, applications, notes, syllabae, statements, to do lists, etc etc. Problem is when I need something fast, it doesn’t happen, I waste so much time searching, digging & cursing. HELP I’M DROWNING IN PAPERWORK!!

Where were you?

File cabinets with a alphanumeric ordering system is what I envision when I think about your organization problem.
VC,
I have cabinets which are “stuffed.” I could buy a couple more. It’s the actual filing that drives me bananas. So much easier to dump the papers into a pile.

Dividers headed with numbers and letters so you can organize them by the first character in the titles, excluding articles like a, an, and the.
Good question. I’ve never seen a title with a number as it’s first word. They usually spell it out. So ignore the numbers. Sorry.
I can probably come up with some more stuff. What about a topical organization level above the alphabet level? You mentioned some types of documents in the original post. Like you can have your to do lists separate from your notes, etc. You also mentioned that you had a tough time finding things even when they were organized alphabetically. You could make an index. A list or lists of each file in the topic/letter/drawer.

No i can’t find stuff because it is not organized, its just in piles of paperwork, all mixed together.
Oh. I still think an index would be useful. Good luck. :)
get a tiered wire rack for your desk. get one with about 10 tiers, each tier will hold a single file folder labeled what the content are, and the date range of those contents; i.e. One folder would be labeled “Invoices; 12/15/2008 - 1/15/2009″. When the folder is full file it away in a cabinet, but this way the most current stuff remains on your desktop. Colored file folders can help in locating different types of files too as long as you have a clear color coded filing system.
With every piece of paper you touch, there are only a few options you need to do about it right then and there; 1) Throw it away, it’s garbage, 2)Delegate it to someone else; it’s not your job. 3) File it; was FYI only anyway, 4) Act on it.

I’m the last person to help you out with that I’m afraid. And by the way, she is not a pigeon! You cheeky mare. She is a lovely Indian Ringneck Parrot who will, one day, speak her first words. Knowing her (she’s a Mommies girl) it will be some form of vulgarity.
Lol. i had a female friend who had a white bird with a crown. she thought all vulgarities, especially at her mother in law who was a elderly, quiet, church-going lady. i swear the poor lady must have peed her undies whenever that bird spoke to her. “how are you, you old c _ _ t?” “did you get l_ _ d today you old tart?” on & on.
Wow that bird sounds amazing. Cockatoo by the sounds of the white crown. Yes… I am a bird geek.
Ms fairy pants,
It looked exactly like the bird on that tv detective show in which the lead character had a bird like that on his shoulder.
But this bird was filthy. i believe it looked up dirty words online just to shoock old edna. i would try not to laugh. it would get to be too much & i’d leave & go into the bathroom, run the shower & laugh like a fool. that bird was “bad to the bone.” if i were edna, i would have popped it in the oven for thanksgiving dinner!
I did not use one curse word, this will look bad on my resume.
