Is there a home remedy for getting sticker residue off of hard surfaces?
I have some shelves I need to clean, and they’re covered with remnants of stickers that were peeled off years ago. I once read that any kind of drinking alcohol would work, but just wanted to ask if anyone had a confirmation on that, or a more specific solution. I can’t find any product like “Goo-Be-Gone” where I live, it just doesn’t exist around here, so I need another way.

I’ll keep looking if you want.
Wet the surface with rubbing alcohol and then use a blade to scrape it off. It should work =)

Ah shoot, we don’t have rubbing alcohol, but…would nail polish remover really work? I’ve got that handy! Thanks so much for your suggestions, btw! ^_^

I found more… lol
Wow! Thanks so much, Laina!!! ^_^
No problem. :) Personally, I’d try the blow dryer method, tape, or maybe the oil one before the others, in case they strip the wood, you know?
peanut butter, i use it when i try to get those pesky price stickers off candles, or other things.
it’s like getting gum out of hair.
Yeesh! Sounds like a mess! ;) Thanks for the tip!
haha, it shouldn’t be that bad. just section it off. and wipe it up before moving on to the next section :)
the very best sticker goo remover is ordinary lighter fluid.(eg.Ronsens)
Caution its flamable use with caution.
Apply a small amount to goo and use a q-tip to rub it.
Then finally wip it with paper or cloth.

Not everyone has lighter fluid lying around. Most people have peanut butter, tape and erasers.
To get original sticker off use hair drier to heat label first
then peel slowly.
Thanks so much, everyone! I’m going to see if I can find some lighter fluid around here. They’re….a little paranoid about fires where I live. ^^;

Where do you live? Like, country, whatever.
I’m in Japan, in a large city where there are still a lot of wooden houses densely packed together. ^^; Not even sure if they’d sell lighter fluid or anything directly flammable at the local convenience store! I might go ahead and just try the nail polish remover first, just to see how it works, before really going out on the hunt.

Oh, okay. You might want to try an oil first, like vegetable or olive. You can get that at a grocery store and I think it wouldn’t be bad at all for the wood. Like seasoning a cutting board…
Laina, I really appreciate your attention to this - thank you! ^_^ I will do my best to pass on the great help!!
Nail polish remover is supposed to work really well.

Nail polish will damage surfaces easily.

Strips colour too. Oh, I think one of the links said toothpaste… that might be fun to try. :D
Hey spiratec9, how did you get it so it states your location under your name? I couldn’t figure out how to do that.
Common suggested remedies include nail polish remover, lighter fluid, wd40 and other dangerous or otherwise hazardous solutions. These all seem to work some of the time, on certain surfaces, if you apply them the right way. You are often recommended to try it on a small area first because several of these recommended solutions will ruin the surface you are using it on. They can also be toxic, flammable, corrosive and more. If you go to the store you will probably be able to find a specialized goo removing product that may or may not work for your specific situation. These products can often remove the residue, but aren’t good for anything else. They also contain numerous chemicals and probably shouldn’t be handled with bare hands.

I think for the removal of residue thinner, spirit and alcohol work pretty well. I was facing this problem. I had sticker on my documents and i was willing to remove these.I was worried that the removal of strikers will harm the documents.I contact with the representative of a href=”http://www.customstickers.us/”>custom stickers /a> . He told me to use peanut butter. I tried and the result was satisfactory.
