i mean if he’s a good friend, he shouldnt be too harsh. and if he says no, im sure he would let you down easy.
but i dont know him, and you know how guys are?

just start out like “listen, i know we’re just friends and all. but have you ever thought about something more?”

and then he can take it from there.

if he sas yes ask him if hes going with anyone

if he sas no tell him well i was wondering if you would like to go with me with a smile.

he will answer yes or no

and since hes your friend he will be sweet and nice on the answer either yes or no

tell him that he should ask you to the formal then…. its easier than asking him yourself, it gives him the chance to back out and it not be too awkward, plus he’s the one whos going to ask so it won’t be weird at all…
