Running help

I admit, I am a wimp when it comes to weather. I cannot run in temperatures below freezing outside.

Here is the problem. I have a treadmill at home, but whenever I turn it on, it makes a really annoying and loud sort of buzzing sound. It’s difficult to describe, but I am able to say it is one of the most irritating sounds I have ever heard.

Anyway, what can I do to be able to run inside, preferably on a treadmill? We don’t have the time or money to get a new one. We also do not have the money to get noise-canceling headphones,so no, those would not work either. (There is not a lot of room just to run around the house inside, either.) Finally, no, I could not run up and down stairs because it would irritate the other people I live with.

Any ideas? Thanks a million.

Ok honestly if you really want to run you are going to have to run outside. If you want to stay inside you might want to try something like jump ropeing (a jump rope is only a couple of dollars). I understand that running outside in the winter sucks but you just have to work through it. Wear spandaex pants and shirts below warmer sweatpants and a sweatshirt or fleece, gloves and a hat/ earmuffs and you will very warm. You just have to motivate yourself to get out of the house because starting is half the battle. Hope this helps :)

I know this is not running but its a leg work out that will really cause you to break a sweat, so long as you move from on exercise into the next exercise to keep your heart rate up. Its plyometrics. Some of the exercises can include “latters/quick feet exercises” for your agility and “jump training” which include variations of jumping and landing really softly. It can be high impact on the knees though. Anyway thats my two cents.

So do you think by the end of the winter I’d still be able to run 6 miles nonstop after this? Or will it just increase my speed and let my endurance decline?

Don’t take my word for it b/c I really don’t know but it should increase your speed and endurance as long as you keep moving from doing one exercise then to another with no break. Typically I do a set of 3 exercises and then take a 30 sec. break. Just make sure you keep your heart rate up. It should really get you to break a sweat. Another option is like mock martial arts, you can do different punch and kick combos and move around like a fighter.

The first poster advised clothing for winter work out.

Just make sure the bottom layer closest to your body wicks the sweat away. last thing you want is to be wet when your outside in the freezing cold.

Dress with one layer less than you would be wearing if you weren’t walking. You should feel slightly chilly before you have warmed up.
