I am over $125,000 in debt because of student loans and cannot find a job that will pay me more than $30,000/year.

I owe $15,000 on the used car that I bought a year and a half ago and have approximately $10,000 in credit card debt. My unemployment runs out in March and I am scared to death. I’ve consolidated all of my student loans and have no job prospects. Can anyone offer me any type of help, guidance, or support?

I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Media Arts and there is virtually no market for such jobs beyond freelance Graphic Design, which is not my strongest talent, in the Pittsburgh area. I have years of retail management experience, educational recruiting experience, and even manual labor experience, but still cannot find a good job that will pay me more than what I’m making on unemployment since I was laid off. I made the mistake of going to a costly private university and chose a degree program that has poor job prospects not only in my area, but nationwide. I am now attempting to deal with that, but it’s quite a deep hole to dig myself out of. Any help….keyword “help”…would be appreciated. Thank you.

still that seems a lot of money for a BA in Media arts.
Maybe start a business with your talents in mind and dig your way out of debt? i’d recommend that.

I suggest that you get a job any job will do until you can find something else. Just waiting around for that great job is not going to happen. There many jobs out there that pay more than your unemployment. Also since you live up in the north, buy yourself a good shovel and remove snow. You can get 25 or more each side walk and drive way, not to mention digging cars out. Depending how much you have to shovel, you can do one an hour, thats $25 and hour or more can be made. You really are not using that high priced education are you? Hope this helps :-)

If those are government student loans then you can’t discharge those debts by filing bankruptcy. Bankruptcy will only discharge student loan debts from private companies.
