jewelry help: I have a very old peice of jewelry that I can not identify. - Help.com

I have a very old peice of jewelry that I can not identify.

This is a stone of some sort. It is oval but flat and very well polished. It is an orange color but very dull or brownish orange. It is encased in a gold frame type that has etched ivey. It is beautiful and I have held it for a very long time, I believe I found it at my grandparents when I was cleaning there stuff up after their passing more then 20 years ago. It gives the apperience of late 1800’s or early 1900’s jewelry. Anyone familiar with anything of this nature?

Its hard to identify it as such without seeing photos, but there are some antique dealers who frequent the Ebay discussion boards in the forums. If you were to upload a photo and show them, they can not only tell you what it is, but an approx. value aswell.

I would take it to an established jeweler. But, before you do that take about three or four pictures of it in different angles so you can identify it when you pick it up again for legal purposes. Just in case. Some of the jewelers are kind of shady and might want to switch that jewel on you.

Thanks — I live in a pretty rural area and usually going to a place that would be able to identify jewelry could take the good part of a day, but I like the idea of using e-bay and uploading some pic’s of it. I will need to get my daughter to help me use e-bay and uploading pic’s. No I am not a country bumpkin w/out knowledge but I am not as technically savy as many others are.
