computer help: my computer won’t “recognize” my camera, so i can’t upload my pictures. - Help.com

This post left anonymously

my computer won’t “recognize” my camera, so i can’t upload my pictures.

it’s actually my mom’s camera, and my memory card, and i took the pictures on a different camera…but it has always worked before. now today i tried it, and a box popped up that said “the computer cannot detect the scanner or camera, please make sure the device is turned on and is properly connected to the computer” - what can i do to make it work???

Sometimes it can be as simple as shutting down your PC and re starting. It seems to reset program files when you do that.

Do you have any software for this camera ? It would be so much easier to get your PC to recognise it if you did.

If it is already installed, try uninstalling and reinstalling it. there seems to be files missing or something

Hi Divedeep, sometimes you can treat the camera just as an external drive and get the pictures that way.

Just hook up the camera to the computer with a USB and go to my computer… see if there is another external drive listed there and then open it. The pictures should be in one of the files on that drive.

Another alternative is to take out the memory stick/card and get the computer to read it with a card reader.

Whats the name brand and specific model of your camera? Go to that manufacture’s website and find the drivers for that specific model. Make sure the drivers are for vista and not windows XP. If you cant find the drivers that way just go to google.com type the name brand and specific model of your camera at the google search + add to that “vista drivers” without the parenthesis. Then search the search results at google for a website that has drivers for your specific camera. Drivers for Vista not windows XP.

2 things one ur camera probably came with a cd if it did install it if not search on google your camera model and put driver on the end with a space because drivers are quite often needed for the camera to be recognized

Try a different Current USB Cable… another USB port or another Computer.
Did you update your usb drivers lately?

If still no good… You can send the Memory card to these guys http://www.epicdatarecovery.com and they’ll get your pics out.

Sometimes if you connect a lot of different USB gear it clogs your system’s USB device list.. and you may need to clear it.

see if there is a bios update for your computer, or a usb update… both or these updates can be downloaded usually from the maker of the product. If it is a no name computer look inside and there will be a number on the main board typer that into Google and it will give you the maker of the motherboard which holds the bios. Look for the Bios name and then you can find the update for the bios…

Hi, I have the same problem. My computer won`t recognize my Sony DSC-w30 digital camera, when I`m using USB cable. USB ports are fine as I can conect my ehternal hard drive using USB. Talked on the chat with Sony Analysts and they couldn`t resolve the problem. I`ve tried to connect the camera to another computer and it works fine with no problems. When I`m connecting the camera I see the message that hardware could not be installed and my device may not work properly. Actually, there is no sony icon on my computer and there is a yellow exclamation mark on the Sony dsc at the divice manager.
Does anybody knows what could cause this problem and perhaps how to fix it? Thanks.

None of these work. My pictures are on the camera not on an SD card, so taking out the memory card and using a card reader is not an option. Sending the card out to get the pictures off is not an option. I have the disk but that doesn’t seem to work with Vista at all. I have tried the camera’s manufacturer’s website and they don’t even have any info on the model I am using. If you plug the camera in via the USB cable and go to My Computer, the camera does not appear there as an external drive or device. So now what?

Same problem with a canon ixus 750. It works with Vista on a laptop but not on a PC running XP. Will try suggestions above and update.

p.s. That loveable_lign individual is obviously a bit anti social and anything they said should be taken with a pinch of salt, you guys are fantastic for offering help for no reward whether it works or not. I would just like to say a BIG THANKYOU for all your input, when people help each other without ulterior motives the world is a much nicer place. :)
