I dont want to overboard diet.

But I need a healthy food routine that I can afford. I am a student, so money isn’t great. I am 220, 5′6, and I would like to get down to at least 180. I think that is a achievable goal. :) Any tips or tricks, please post!

Work exercise into your daily routine. Running, biking, walking, taking the stairs. Take EVERY opportunity to exercise you can get.

I lived on pitas and hummus and peanut butter and little microwave lunches for the better part of a year. Joined a running group, biking group, biked to work, ran 3x per week, swam. Lost 90- lbs.

Hm, I understand, believe me. That’s where joining scheduled groups helps and working exercise into your day helps.

get to work/school by walking, biking
take a walk after lunch — always
get home by walking, biking

join an exercise group (not the same as a gym) and develop social relationships with people there… have fun while you’re exercising

it becomes a habit, you feel better with time and you wonder how you were ever any other way

Try to eat more veggies and fruit, less fried food and desert, take a walk when possible. That’s my personal diet, Plus eat a big breakfast little dinner.

You honestly may not even have to diet. The principle behind losing weight is that you are expending more calories than you take in on a day to day basis. As a college student myself I have found that losing weight is definitely possible.

Try exercising. Both running and lifting weights will help you lose some weight, and possibly even put on muscle. Keep running 3-4 days out of the week. As far as lifting (I assume you have a college gym you can go to), I would recommend the main compound lifts (Bench Press, Squats, Deadlifts and Shoulder Presses). Look up Mark Rippetoe’s starting strength for a good workout plan.

As far as diet goes, cut your calorie intake down by a small amount (200-500 calories). Try to lean more towards 200 if you add in more exercise.
