Can someone please help me with this computer?

I,ve been forced to reinstall windows on my laptop because of a virus. after the format i tried to put all the drivers back on the system. MOST of them worked fine but the **** display driver absolutley refuses to work. i tried my backup drivers first and it gave me an error saying ” video driver not found ” mind you this was the ******* driver .exe telling me this. so i figured the copy was corrupt and downloaded it again .. the second dwload did this too, as did the third and fourth and fith! ive gone to 4 different sites to find the driver. downloaded from two different comps theres no way in hell that that .exe is the problem, so what is? I know i’m dwnloading the right driver, its an ATI Radeon igp 320m. dosent get much more detailed than that. so wtf is the problem?

@stephe: nubuntu is for people with at least some experience, not just everyone sick of windblows.

@beasley: Go to the control panel, and click “Add Hardware”. If you’ve got some wacked out categorizatation going on, it’ll be under “Printers and other hardware”
Next, say you’ve already got the stuff connected, Next, bla bla.
Anyway, when you get to a list, there should be some yellow question icons next to certain drivers. Select anything to do with ‘generic video’ and continue. Allow it to connect to the internet to update the driver. Works a charm.

good point alec, but now would be as good as any time to try a live distro … no experience needed there

Heres a easy way to do this. Download this program and set it up. CCleaner: http://www.download.com/CCleaner/3000… now uninstall the video driver and make sure that you have downloaded the correct driver to your desktop. Run the registry cleaner, reboot. Now when they system looks for the drivers point it to your desktop folder where the drivers are located. That should do it. Hope this helps :-)
