Does this friend live with you or are you trying to run a cable ? Or a wireless connection?
just 1 open port and he doesnt live with me just visiting with his labtop
dont know much about internet sharing but its a cable connection we are tryn to share no wireless
i thought sharing 1 internet connection
Buy a router. You can’t do it with just the cable modem the cable company gave you. The reason being is the cable company only gives you one IP address. A Wired Router allows more than one PC to get online with one IP address. Trust me I have tried this before at my house. My friend which is a network engineer at Hartford Hospital told me this is the only way. Buy a Router.
dang alright thats what i keep finding when i search. so thanks for the confirmation
or a crossover cable, or wireless through addhoc might work also?
is there anyway i could get something working w/o buying anything
Internet connections!!!!
I don’t have any sage advice, unfortunately….I just made a reply here so I can follow this post and get the wonderful information….Thanks, poster and repliers :)
could someone explain what a addhoc is ?
A wireless PC to PC network.
haha addhoc isnt too bad, as long as your not expecting to turn off your computer too much, it pretty much connects the 2 computers together wirelessly. i’ve never had ttoo much trouble with it, although i have to set it up like everyday lol
well it seems there is no hope for us since im on desktop and he is on labtop. what about connecting in a lan so that we can play say diablo 2 is that possible and if so how
haha okay then fair enough, the easiest way would then be router, cheaper way i would think, would be through crossover cable.
well…guess im just gona have to buy a router.=( thanks for all the replies guys it helped alot guess im going to go. thanks again
