Management help: Job interview for ‘Assistant Store Manager’ tomorrow. - Help.com

Job interview for ‘Assistant Store Manager’ tomorrow.

Any advice? I *really* need this job, I’ve been unemployed for nearly 8 months!!

I don’t have any ‘real’ management/supervisor experience, like it’s never been my job description. I’ve been a rank higher, with no special duties except for attending meetings. And in two instances I’ve been a senior employee, and have trained and unofficially supervised new employees.

Also, I’m only 23, which might work to my disadvantage.

1.Be punctual.
2.Know your stuff. Be passionate about whatever the store sells, but don’t go overboard.
3. Think of questions you might have.
4. Smile

Good Luck!!!!!!!

Well, it’s a video game rental & sale store, and I’m a gamer. Can you please explain how I should be passionate, but not go overboard?

Go in with a positive attitude! Smile and make the interviewer believe that you and only you are the right person for the job! Picture yourself doing the job and you will get it! Good luck!

Actually, now and days, employers jump at younger applicants because although they may be inexperienced, that also means they can start you at a lower salary, saving them money. And EVERYONE wants to save money right now. If you be yourself and let your leadership qualities, and qualifications shine, you should be able to get the job. Good luck.

sounds to me like you’re not very enthusiastic about it — sometimes you have to be willing you have to take some risk and invest time & effort in order to EARN money, rather than to simply “GET PAID”

(just me thinking out loud, so never mind ;)

Yeah, well, I could flip that around on you, for expecting someone to provide you with free content for your site, or whatever you had in mind. ;) You know, businessstartupsmall, sometimes you have be willing to take some risk & invest some cold hard cash in order to EARN money. ;)

Anyway, it was a panel interview, with 5 corporate bigwigs and 8 other highly professional candidates. I was already nervous enough, and here I am having to answer challenging questions in front of 13 others. I was the youngest and least experienced, and being so nervous, my answers sucked, but I felt good to have even have been selected for an interview. They were actually considering us as potential store managers, kind of a big deal considering some of these stores pull 2 mil a year in profits.

Okay, 4 phone calls later, I have a second interview. It is for one step down the ladder, ‘Shift Leader’, but I’m happy with that. Weirdly, though, the District Manager is coming to my interview. He is the one person in charge of every store in the city; the boss of bosses. Any advice for interview #2? Any questions to look out for.

Make sure you look professional. I was at SYMS clothing store the other day and picked up a really nicely discounted designer suit, AND I got the job.

I didn’t get this job. I thought the second interview went really well, too.

But anyway, I have two jobs now, and both of them pay better than this one would have. So, no worries.
