I want a president to honor his campaign promises for once.

What promises did Presidents Bush, Clinton, Reagan, and Carter, as well other presidents during your life, make that where not honored? Just looking back at the last president; most of his campaign promises where in fact honored by him; they just did not stand up to congress. An example of this is that President Bush promised to partially privatize social security; as president he pushed very hard to make this happen, but congress did not allow it and it hurt the president quite a bit. The same thing will happen when Obama tries to live up to his promise to revamp the health care industry; congress will stand in the way of change and Obama will be hurt for it.

The only real change that Obama could hope to achieve is to narrow the partisan bickering in Washington and set the stage for some real government reform. He can do so by being vocal and charming; by being a role model. After that the rest will follow.

That is what I would like to see.

However I doubt he will be able to accomplish it. As a result there will be no lasting change; and “change” he does create will simply be watered down and then finally undone after he leaves office. Which will be sooner rather than later as he fails to live up to the image people have made for him.

I couldn’t agree with you more that congress will get in the way of many of obama’s promises but I also know that many politicians make promises knowing full well that they will never have to fulfill them. The only promise I want obama to keep is to have our troops (of which I am one) out of Iraq in 16 months! Right now I am in afghanistan but if 100,000+ troops are freed from iraq then I won’t be spending every other year of my life in a combat zone.

Well then on that one; you will be disappointed. That was one promise Obama made knowing full well that he would not be keeping it. That instead once he got into office he would continue to listen to the commanders on the ground and not pull troops out until the situation called for it.

He has already bake peddled on his promises for this; he will keep the top commanders that served under President Bush and has already stated he will listen to them instead of creating heavy deadlines.

What will happen in Iraqi and Afghanistan is what would have happened no matter who was elected last November. Obama will make little differences. Turthfuly he can’t even if he wanted to.

Yeah I know that is why I have no faith in obama’s “change” BS
