Um nope he hasn’t done anything yet
well he has signed a piece of paper that will make all the naughty prison camps and CIA black sites like Guantanamo bay close down, hes made the practice of water boarding and torture illegal in interrogations… not bad soo far.
yeah those are things that the congress should have done years ago… but our congress (for which obama was a member not too long ago) are all spineless! so of course it had to wait for a decent man to get into the office.
he’s approved stem cell research
Sounds good to me!
Yeah but where does he intend for the stem cells to come from? I am in favor of stem cell research too because I am in favor of almost any kind of medical or scientific research but I do wonder how they intend to acquire the new stem cells
well initially they will use Embryonic stem cells simply because adult stem cells are already genetically programmed and cant be used for the treatment. There will be research done that will look for alternate ways to produce these embryonic cells in laboratory conditions, with the US on board the research of stem cell therapy’s. there will be a fast and exponential improvement and perhaps significant breakthroughs in the methods in the next five to ten years.
Undoubtedly they will discover some things but I am not convinced that stem cells are the holy grail that people are hyping it up to be.
As long as they don’t use it as another excuse to have abortions.

ehm… you do realize this research has the potential to cure blindness, paralysis muscular degeneration?… it would be the biggest scientific breakthrough potentially ever.
I am very aware of its potential but it is just a possibility. Scientists always like to toot their own horn on issues whenever they are having a hard time getting their own way. I would love if it ended up doing all the amazing things they claim it “may” one day provide. But I don’t believe in the fountain of youth so I am not going to get suckered into this either.

well to believe that a binary compound that occurs at room temperature as a clear colorless odorless tasteless liquid would have any sort of regenerative properties is a bit far fetched.
you have to remember this has so much potential and is widely accepted in the scientific community to be the next great discovery in medicine that human trial have begun in other countries. The potential outcome of this being a success could lead to huge financial revenue to the countries that develop and successfully trial this treatment.
Yes and Mengala (sp?) aka doctor death was on the verge of truly solving the aryan problem by cloning everyone into blue eyed blonde haired babies. :-) I love science and I love medicine but I am not going to swallow anything at face value just because it has “potential” I want proof. You know what they say the proof is in the pudding. When (or if) they manage to make good on all their claims then I’ll believe that stem cells are the best thing since sliced bread. But I don’t praise someone before they win the big game.
For the first few days he’s been in office, I am indeed impressed that he’s already making dramatic changes, and I fully applaud him. Whether he can keep it up, remains to be seen. But I think I have faith in him to do what he can. At least it’s a start.
I feel like a light has gone on! His is already starting to live up to his promises and through his leadership his team is working toward realistic goals at this point in his presidency. I am thrilled!
